MAPP, Rachel Marguerita (nee States)

September 25, 1918 – Avonport, Nova Scotia
November 25, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta

Rachel Mapp (nee States) passed away at the Age Care Glenmore Centre on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the age of 99 years.

Rachel was born on September 25, 1918 in Avonport, Nova Scotia to Walter and Ada States. The family moved to Regina, Saskatchewan where she attended school. She moved to Edmonton, Winnipeg and finally Calgary, where she has lived for the past 74 years. Rachel worked for the City of Calgary in the mail room and always loved to brag about having working alongside many mayors to help run the city of Calgary for 30 years. She will especially be missed by her nephew John Trotman who she always looked forward to visiting every time he came to Calgary.

Although her plan had been to reach the age of 100, we have to believe that she decided to move on to a better place, where she would have no suffering or pain. Rachel had a zest for life and lived it to the fullest.

Rachel is survived by, her daughters, Edith Walton, Frances Proctor, Violet Walton and Doreen Proctor; grandchildren, Francine Kreba (Andy), Elana (Mark) Holland, Tara-Marie Winspur (Cory), Stephanie Winspur (David), Michele (Terry) Irvin, Arthur Proctor, Merle (Kim) Proctor and Gay Nelson; great-grandchildren, Mariah Holland, Orraya Holland, Ashley Irvin; including many other great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was predeceased by her four husbands Charles Walton, Ralph Mapp, James Brown and George Wilson; her siblings, Oscar, John, Ronald, Amos, Bing, Eleanor; and her granddaughter Ida.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Condolence Messages

  1. Agecare Glenmore Recreation Team :

We meet Rachel during the last few years of her life. She showed us many sides of her personality from pushing the laundry carts in the evening, to dancing her shoes off during musical entertainments, to her sassy comments towards staff and even towards her daughter Edith. We will miss her bright smile, seeing her many hats as she went out with her family and her dancing moves on the floor. Our condolences to her family and friends.
