MAJESKI, Kevin Scott

March 6, 1990 – March 31, 2012

Kevin Scott Majeski passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the age of 22 years.

Kevin was born and raised in Calgary by his mother Alison, until her death when he was 5, and then by his grandparents Zyg and Gail Majeski. He attended Sam Livingston Elementary, and West Island College, graduating with Great Distinction. Following one year of study at the University of Calgary, he moved to New York to pursue a degree in classical voice at the Manhattan School of Music with esteemed voice teacher Joan Patenaude-Yarnell. Kevin began singing and playing the piano at the age of 6, and went on to become an accomplished musician. His passion for music, along with his amazing baritone voice, led to his success in numerous competitions, and performances both locally and provincially. In recent years Kevin began composing music and participated in summer opera programs in Italy and the Banff School of Fine Arts. Kevin was a great guy to be around, and was loved by so many people in Calgary and New York. His sense of humor always filled a room. He loved to ski, hike, climb, play video games and hang out with friends and his sister Josie. He will be dearly missed by his family, but loved forever. A special thank you to Kevin’s close friend Claire Gellert and her family in Long Island who gave him a home away from home.

Kevin is survived by grandparents/guardians Zyg and Gail Majeski, sister Josie Majeski, uncle Trevor Majeski, father Dillon Wakefield, and paternal grandmother Ann Craig as well as a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother Alison Majeski in 1995.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Monday, April 9, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. A Private Family Graveside Service will follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire memorial donations can be made in Kevin’s name to the charity of the donors choice.

In living memory of Kevin Majeski, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.

    Dear Majeski family,
I am deeply saddened and so very sorry for your loss of Kevin. I was fortunate to have taught him both chemistry and biology at WIC. I will always remember his witty sense of humor in class and his phenomenal talent in music and drama. He and I used to laugh about his fondness for chemical stoichiometry. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with your family in this most difficult time.

Kevin was someone who knew he had a gift to share and he did it with great humility. I pray that you can find peace in your heart at this most sad time.

  12. Donadeo Family :

It was with great sadness that we became aware of the passing of Kevin. Kevin performed at our son’s wedding in Banff and at our parents 60th wedding anniversary in Sylvan Lake. He posed as a waiter in both instances, surprised the crowd and sang O Sole Mio to a roaring ovation. He was a bit taken aback by the reaction. He had a big beaming smile and I think he quite enjoyed it. His performance was spectacular, moving and memorable – one that we all still speak about. Our deepest condolences go to his family and friends. He was a special young man with a special talent and he will be missed. The Donadeo Family

His beautiful voice always inspired me to be a better singer, and pursue opportunities to explore and share my own gifts. He was a good man and a great chorister. We will miss the presence of his voice on earth, but know that he is sharing his gifts with God in Heaven.

Kevin and I were drama classmates, and friends, during his year at the U of Calgary. He is a truly remarkable and talented young man, and he is sorely missed.

If I may, an Irish blessing:

May the road rise up to meet you.
