  8. Jim and Brenda Merkley :

I am so sorry for your loss. I met Dale about 10 years ago when he walked into a meeting in Okotoks. I instantly liked him. How could you not? He had the warmest smile and that eastern charm. He was a very warm and welcoming man. I used to tell my husband that I thought he looked like Mel Gibson. I watched over the years as Dale grew in the program, questioning and wanting more, he loved his family so much. I saw him about 5 days before he died, at Walmart in Okotoks, we talked for about 20 minutes, I got a big hug from him. He told me he was retiring next year, he wanted to just slow down. We talked about God, and so many other things. I was so saddened to hear of his death, but I know he is in a much better place, he is with God now and forever. There is no pain for him anymore. If I can say one thing to his family whom he loved so much, please don’t just focus on his final moment on this earth, because you will miss the last 56 years of his life. My prayers are with you all as we say farewell to a : son, brother, uncle, father, grandfather, friend, and very special friend to friends of Bill W.
    Yours sincerely Brenda Merkley

Our condolences to Karen, Travis, Lindsay, family, and friends. We first met Dale and his family over 25 years ago in Castleridge as new neighbours. We remember Dale as a fun neighbour, chatting up the neighbourhood, always happy, optimistic and willing to give a hand to help others. We remember Dale as a hard worker, a weight lifter and he loved to mimic Tim Allen on tool time. We somehow ended meeting Dale and his family during our holidays at Green Bay resort where he continued to treat others at camp as his neighbours in Calgary. We had a great time carrying on with Dale, it made for great holidays. Dale and his family moved to Martindale where he became neighbours with a co-worker of mine, Scotty Buchanan. Well they became friends and the fun continued. Life continued for all of us, busy lives with family and work and before you know it too many years have passed since we spent time with Dale. So we will remember Dale as we knew him for that short time!
