MAHATOO, Clyde James

October 5, 1948 – Siparia, Trinidad and Tobago
January 10, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Clyde Mahatoo on Tuesday, January 10, 2018 at the age of 69 years.

Clyde will be remembered for his devotion to his family and friends, generous nature, sense of humor, and love of Caribbean cuisine and music. Clyde retired in 2015, but enjoyed a lifelong career in the Oil and Gas Industry, which brought him to Canada in 1970, and then to work overseas for many years in Libya, North Africa. Clyde finished his career in Calgary with Compressco, where his knowledge was unprecedented. Animated and outgoing, he had a profound impact on everyone he met.

Clyde was a loving father, husband, brother, and friend. He will be missed immensely by his son and daughter-in-law Colin Mahatoo and Heather Neis, and daughter and son-in-law Stacy and Douglas Fink, and special lifelong friends. He was predeceased by his wife of forty-three years Euline in 2015.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street S.E., Calgary, AB) on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

Please accept my condolences on the passing of my dear cousin, Clyde. I was fortunate to re-connect with him while on a trip to Calgary years ago and then had the pleasure of having him and your mum visit me in Toronto. I spent many wonderful holidays in Siparia with my cousins. Clyde , as I know him was always warm and gentle. I’m sorry I don’t know both of you but if ever you’re in Toronto, I would love to meet you.

    Dear Stacy and Colin

We will always treasure our visits with Clyde and Euline. It is 38 years since they were our witnesses at our wedding. Richard has known Clyde since his days as an apprentice in Trinidad —over 55 years! It is very sad to lose such a great friend far too soon.

  13. To the Mahatoo Family,
As a young man not long out of college I had an incredible opportunity to start a division of Compressco in Canada in 2002. A wonderful stroke of luck led me to Clyde Mahatoo and he was the first person I hired. Over the next 10 years, Clyde and I did something incredible together… we built a company that went on to become the industry leader in our market. That legacy lives on today in the hands of people Clyde and I personally hand-picked to carry the torch… and I’m certain he was proud of all we accomplished to his final days. We worked hard together, we challenged each other, we disagreed at times, but celebrated a great many victories together. Clyde was far more a mentor to me than an employee, and I grew a deep respect and admiration for the man.

One of two key individuals who now work for me is a man from Trinidad. Just the other day I was telling him about Clyde, how much I respected and appreciated Clyde and how I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Trinidadians. Clyde was an ambassador to his homeland more than he knew.

It saddens me that I had not stayed closer to Clyde the last couple years. It is on my bucket-list to visit Trinidad someday. When there I will take a moment of silence and then raise a toast to Clyde Mahatoo. His memory will live long in my heart and mind and his teachings will aid me through life.

Thank you for you leadership, guidance, and friendship.
    Sincerely,
    Kevin Book

It would honor me if you would read this condolence at Clyde’s “celebration of life” as I know there will be many from Clyde’s “Compressco Family” in attendance. Thank you.
