February 15, 1936 – March 2, 2012
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved dad, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Tony Mah. Dad passed away peacefully with family by his side.
Dad was an incredible man! As a young boy, he left his mother and father and family in China and came over with his grandfather on a boat with ‘just the shirt on his back’. He built a new life and learned a new language and culture. He took great pride in his family and taught us all to excel as well as to ‘let it be’. An amazing lifelong learner, he enjoyed carpentry, gardening, painting, exercise, playing guitar, trying out new languages, healthy living, taking naps, and a good bowl of old-fashioned porridge. Dad was the original DIY – building many homes from the ground up including plumbing, wiring and kitchen cupboards with just a saw and hammer. He worked in the restaurant business in Camrose for many years at the Royal Cafe and the Rose Grill. He loved to share his ‘words of wisdom.’ Dad was well known for his clam chowder, barbecued steaks, apple pie and his Brown Derby (a doughnut with ice cream and chocolate sauce in the middle!) His one-of-a-kind eccentric ways will hold a special place in our hearts.
Dad is lovingly remembered by his four children and their families
Lori Beale and husband Jim, Norman Mah (predeceased by Kim), Debbie Mah and husband Larry Espe, Kellie Shaw and husband Brett; grandchildren Mick (Heather), Quinn (Angela), Zack, Mark, Jenny (Joshua), (predeceased by baby Ryan), Cylas, Brittany, Makari, Robyn, Erin, Logan, Taylor; great-grandchildren Sadie, Lida, Marie, Lukas and Jayden. Dad is also remembered by his siblings, relatives and friends.
A small private family memorial to celebrate Dad’s life will take place in the future. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, if friends and family so choose, donations can be made to Carewest Sarcee Hospice, 3504 Sarcee Road S.W. Calgary, AB T3E 4T4.
