MACNEILL, Daniel (Dan) Ian

February 22, 1953 – Montreal, Quebec
September 26, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta

Dan MacNeill, beloved husband, step-father, brother and son, passed away in Calgary on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at the age of 64 years.

In addition to a long and successful career as a computer systems analyst and consultant in Ontario and Alberta, Dan was a talented artist, musician and poet. His many watercolour paintings are a legacy to his great artistic talent. Despite physical limitations, Dan was able to learn and play many musical instruments, including the cello, guitar, piano, harmonica and drums. He was also a wonderful singer and really enjoyed performing on his own and with other musicians at many social events and gatherings. For several years he was a member of Stampede City Chorus, performing at various venues in Calgary.

An avid golfer and fisherman, Dan was also involved as a volunteer with many organizations and associations in Calgary. He was very involved in local theatre and arts groups in Ramsey and Inglewood and volunteered for the 4H Club. Dan was also secretary of the Calgary Fort Progressive Conservative Association. Most recently, Dan had a number of roles as a key member of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Alberta, Crescent Chapter.

Dan’s life touched many people, evidenced by the many family and friends he has helped through difficult times. He was a kind, considerate and loving person who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Dan is survived by his wife of 29 years, Velma Toporowski, step-son Jay Toporowski, his mother Olive MacNeill, his brother Terry MacNeill and his sisters, Lynda, Diane, Karen and Gail.

A celebration of Dan’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. Reception to follow at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
