July 7, 2013 – Calgary, AB

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather Jim MacMillan of High River, on Sunday, July 7, 2013 in Calgary, at the age of 74 years.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of fifty-one years Janice; children Joe (Lisa), Jerry and Jill (Doug); and grandchildren Parker, Josh, Jayden, Mattie and Katey. He was predeceased by his father Joseph in 1943 and his mother Beulah in 1986.

Jim was born in Woodstock, ON on October 28, 1938. He came west in 1958 to work for the CPR. Jim and Janice were married in 1962 in Gull Lake, SK. Jim started his career with Canada Customs as a Customs Officer in 1967, which took the family to West Poplar River, SK, Leduc and Calgary. The highlight of his career was being the Customs Coordinator for the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. In 1993, Jim retired and he and Janice moved to High River.

Jim loved to golf, travel and was actively involved in his younger years in high school football, competitive swimming and junior hockey. He was a past director of the Highwood Golf and Country Club. Jim will be greatly missed by his family, especially his grandchildren who were the biggest blessing in his life.

  5. Carolyn Patton :

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Mr. MacMillan always had time to talk to all the children in the neighbourhood when you lived in Canyon Meadows, even the pesky older sisters of Jim and Jerry’s friends. My deepest sympathies.
