MacMillan – George Shaw

March 10, 1933 – October 9, 2009

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that George Shaw MacMillan left us on Friday, October 9, 2009 at the age of 76 years.

Life began for George in Alberry Plains, PEI, March 10, 1933. He graduated from McGill University and worked for Standard Oil/ Chevron Canada Resources for twenty-five years before consulting on several oil and gas related projects. George’s ventures included a cattle farm in PEI, real estate and being a landlord throughout the years. George was often seen in his treasured sports cars with the red toolbox or lawn mower hanging from the trunk, on his way to maintain one of his ventures. George was a best friend to many, and will be deeply missed by his many faithful friends and loving family. All who knew him will miss his great sense of humour, generous spirit, and his appreciation for life which often included lunch with his friends. George was truly appreciative and thankful for his many friendships right to the end. Thank you for continuing your friendships through an uncomfortable time. This has not gone unnoticed.

George we miss you already and “you take care”. Love Always.

George is survived by the love of his life of over fifty-two years, Fran (nee Wilson); his loving daughter Tracey of Calgary; his loving son Shaw (Jane) of Ladner, BC; his three granddaughters, Emma, Katie, and Halle; his sisters Edna (John) Gosbee of Calgary, Marina (Barry) Westhaver of Victoria, BC, and Florine (Barry) Sigsworth of Alberry Plains, PEI; brother John (Eleanor) of Stratford, PEI; as well as nieces and nephews from coast to coast. George was predeceased by his parents, Jessie and Shaw MacMillan; his siblings, Frances, Jean, and Fred; brothers-in-law, Derald MacKenzie, and Norman Wilson; and father and mother-in-law Walter and Jane Wilson.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W.), on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. You may forward condolences through If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Parkinson’s Society of Southern Alberta, #102, 5636 Burbank Crescent S.E., Calgary, AB T2H 1Z6 Telephone: (403) 243-9901, or to the charity of your choice. 7. Greg & Marianne Smith :

Fran, we did not know until tonight (Thursday October 15) when we went to see our Dad at Bow View Manor and we asked about the beautiful flowers at the Units desk and were told of your loss.
Fran you were a shining light and you were always so thoughtful and kind not only to Mr. MacMillan but to our father. We know this must hurt but we are so thankful Mr. MacMillan does not to need to suffer anymore. Fran we pray that you are surrounded by love always. You did all you could. We know Mr. MacMillan is probably bragging to everyone about the beautiful wife he had here on earth.
God Bless you Fran and God Bless your family!
Sending you Lots of Luv & Hugs

  8. Bill Arsenault :

    Hello Fran, Tracey and Shaw

May you experience peace during this season of your lives. Debbie & I first met George in 1989, we were at a financially difficult time in our lives, looking for a place to live. Thus we were shown the house in Desable, PEI. George had a plan, it seemed to me George always had a plan 🙂 He talked about the arrangement that would be made between us and we went to work. Although there were some difficulties Debbie and I always felt that God had brought George into our lives to bless us. We soon found out that George always kept his word.
When George would come to visit it would always bring joy hearing him speak about the fond memories he had in previous years at the property he loved so much.
He would always ask how the boys were doing and if they liked living there. Our boys spent many warm days exploring the beach just below the house.
George left his mark on our lives and we so appreciate the kindness that was shown to us.
Our prayer for you is that you will experience the comfort that God brings during this difficult time.

    God Bless
    Bill, Debbie, Joshua & Jordan
