MACLELLAN – Deborah (nee Erwin)

November 21, 1958 – June 5, 2011

Deborah Maclellan passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2011 after 52 great years and a long and hard battle with cancer.

Debbie’s life was filled with the joy that she received from a loving family, a great group of close friends and time spent on her favourite pastimes of summer vacations at the lake, and winter months playing hockey.

Debbie was a proud mother to children, Merry, Jack, Will and Molly who were a continual source of joy to her, whether it was on summer vacations at the cottage in Temagami, or through regular calls while away at school. Debbie was filled with an athletic and creative spirit that lives on in these wonderful children. Debbie is also survived by her loving mother Edna Erwin, younger brother Larry Erwin, and husband Colin.

A passionate shinny player with the Hockey Bags, Baguettes, and Oakridge Shooters, she treated the family to the occasional replays of ‘top corner’ goals on the shooter-tutor. Through her hockey, the athletic activities of her kids, and her adopted family she developed a great group of close friends. A heartfelt thanks for the tremendous support she received from them through her life and her battle.

Additional thanks to the great staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Clinic in Calgary, with a special thank-you to Dr. Scott Dowden a great oncologist and person.

A celebration of Debbie’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. 1. CARY LEDINGHAM :

To Colin, Merry, Jack, Will, Molly, Edna and Larry:
I did not have the pleasure of meeting Debbie’s family, but would like to share some memories of my own that came to me when I learned of Debbie’s death. We met at UofT in 1977 – I was Toronto born and raised, Debbie was from Temagami. She described this wonderful place that she called home so that we all felt that we had been there. I can still see her with her guitar, playing and singing “Homeward Bound” when she was missing Temagami. We stirred things up a bit around UofT but the best times were spent at the Fraternity house where Debbie liked to play the piano. Meatloaf’s “Bat Out of Hell” recording was current, and she had the music book for the piano. One of her favourites to play was “Heaven Can Wait”.
Those two songs will always mean “Debbie Erwin” for me.
She was a beautiful person, so full of life. That life lives on in you all.

Colin, Merry, Jack, Will & Molly,
Deb was certainly a great supporter of everything the kids wanted to pursue. Just the other day Trent pulled a spiderman suit that Deb had made Evan & Will to perform the lip-sinc to the theme song in elementary school. Her enthusiasm & smiling face will be missed. Our deepest sympathies for your loss.

Colin, Jack, Merry, Will and Molly, I am deeply sorry for your loss and would like to share a couple memories that I remember Debbie as a joyous, caring, and talented women. All the way back in Preschool with Molly, driving home in the old rear facing seats, I remember waving at other cars, when we would get a wave back Mrs. Maclellan would share our joy and would also share our dissappointment when they wouldn’t wave back. She shared these feelings because she was a tremendously caring lady, and a great mom. Every Christmas time the baking she would make was some of the best I ever tasted, and with the first bite of every year my mother would say “mmm, that Mrs. Maclellan wins #1 mom of the year again!” Mrs. Maclellan was just an all around great person and will be deeply missed.

  24. Armeda Vanderwoude :

I was devastated and shocked to come upon the notice last night of the passing five years ago of my dear childhood friend Debbie. She was my kindred spirit and best friend throughout our years at Thomas A. Blakelock High School in Oakville. It was bittersweet when her family moved to her beloved Temagami after grade 11. I had the honour to play the organ at her lovely wedding at Walton Memorial. We also shared some visits as young mothers, but lost touch when she moved to Calgary. I have missed her and thought of her so often.
Debbie was such a bright, energetic happy person who lit up a room with her light and infectious laughter.
My prayers are with Colin, her children, and her dear mother Edna.
    Sincerely,
    Armeda
