MACLEAN, Helen

January 10, 2014 – Calgary, AB

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my wife Helen on Friday, January 10, 2014. When people asked Helen her age she always replied “30 and a bit and the bit is my own business” and so it shall remain.

Helen was a long time member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Associated Canadian Travelers and was a past president. For many years she was a receptionist for Hale Optical and later years for Canadian Freightways. She was a wonderful companion, a terrific mother and a devoted wife for sixty-nine years.

In addition to her husband Douglas, she leaves to mourn her sons Douglas (Rose Marie), Daniel (Celine) and Timothy (Stefanie); her grandchildren, Karey MacLean (Dale) of Regina, Dr. Dan MacLean (Dr. Lynn) of Woodland, California and Jaysen and Brett MacLean of Port Alberni, BC. Helen was predeceased by her parents; two sisters Irene Urquhart and Alberta England; two brothers George Marks and Dr. Jim Marks.

At Helen’s request there will be no service. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Helen MacLean, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

Condolence Messages

  1. Dear Doug and family,
I was so sad to hear of Helen’s passing. She was a wonderful person and I know she will be missed immensely. I loved working with Helen back in the days of Hale Optical and I know she had a profound effect on my work ethic. Her sense of humour was one of her strongest assets and I always felt happy after talking to her! Every year when I put up my ceramic Christmas tree (made by Helen) I will think of her fondly and how giving she was to family and friends. Please know Doug, that you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

    Sincerely,
    Kim Dixon
