MACKIE, Donald (Don) Lorne

June 21, 1952 – April 21, 2012

With great sadness and heavy hearts, Don’s family announces his passing on Saturday, April 21, 2012.

Don had many passions in life. He loved his family and friends and left us all with many treasured memories and genuine relationships with all who loved and were loved by him. He took pride in his home and vacation property he shared with Sue and put his heart, soul, and sweat-equity into renovating, redecorating, gardening and landscaping. Don enjoyed music and spent countless hours expressing his innermost feelings through song writing. His favorite past-time was playing guitar while exercising his vocal cords around a campfire with special friends and loved ones. Don was always a strong, loving, committed, and determined man and demonstrated these traits through his love, compassion, gentle kindness and encouragement during his courageous battle with lung cancer. His legend and love will thrive in our hearts for eternity.

Don’s loving family continue to celebrate and honour his life. His loving wife Susan (Sue) Mackie; children Melinda (Dane), Dana (Chantal), and Jonathan (Jessica); grandchildren Sophia, Avery, Eden, Blaze, Brayden, and Evan; parents Lorne and Wilma Mackie; siblings Tami, Terri (Tim), Dale (Vivian), Darryl (deceased Feb. 2012). Several nieces and nephews, extended family, and special friends will also remember Don with much love.

Memorial Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. Reception to follow. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to support Alberta-based lung cancer support groups and activities. Don believed these groups and services were important and could benefit from increased funding. Please contact the Canadian Cancer Society, Alberta/NWT Division (1-800-661-2262) to specify how you would like the funds directed.
In living memory of Don Mackie, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH Telephone: (403) 276-2296.
