MACKENZIE, Andrew “Ian” Wark

May 4, 1924 – Victoria, British Columbia
September 10, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta

Ian Mackenzie (Andrew Ian Wark Mackenzie) one of the world’s nice people, as referred to by his mother, Professor Mabel Mackenzie of Toronto’s York University and UBC from which he graduated. Ian’s academic career was interrupted by World War II when he volunteered for overseas service aged 18, serving and subsequently being wounded in Italy in 1944. After the war Ian completed his degree in forestry and went on to work in investments and property management, always pursuing ethics and humanity over personal gain. A long serving member of the Glencoe Club and a keen tennis player, Ian was a great outdoorsman, who built his own log cabin in Golden. Ian was a scholar and an historian, writing two historical novels in later life.

Greatly missed by his loving and much loved wife, Patricia; his three daughters, Cynthia, Andrea and Melissa; step-children; grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and by many others whose lives Ian touched all over the world, who will always remember him with great fondness.

After a Private Funeral Service a Celebration of Ian’s Life for friends and family will be held at the Glencoe Club (636 – 29th Ave S.W., Calgary, AB) on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Ian Mackenzie, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
