MACDONALD, Kathleen (Katie) Edith

September 30, 1924 – April 11, 2012

Kathleen (Katie) Edith Macdonald passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the age of 87 years.

Born Kathleen (Katie) Edith Morden in Fort Vermillion, Alberta, to mother Maria Morden (Lizotte) and father Anzi Louis Morden, a fur trader.

Katie is survived by son Doug Macdonald (Linda Hackman) of Calgary; daughters, Debbie (Steve McHugh) and their children Melanie and Colton of South Lake Tahoe and Kathy (Wade Mills) and their daughter Presley of Calgary. She is also survived by her brother Doug Morden of Kelowna; and dear sisters, Ruth Savill and Gladys Weibe of Edmonton; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband Donald (Mac) Macdonald; a brother and sisters, Hazel Wood, Jenny Scrivens and Ruby Pratt.

Katie adored children, loved gardening and playing Scrabble, and she was the center of countless get-togethers where she would cook, decorate and regale family and friends with pranks and her great sense of humour. Her life was a blessing. The family is grateful for the love and support they received from nieces Kathleen Hutcheson of Spokane, Lorna Tappay of Blairmore and Paul Ouellette, a family friend.

A family gathering will be held at a later date where her favourite recipes will be attempted by lesser-talented cooks. In lieu of flowers, Katie would want you to gather with your families for a special dinner. Condolences may be forwarded through

In living memory of Katie Macdonald, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH Telephone: (403) 276-2296.

  2. Mary and Peter Gubitz and Family :

Sorry to hear of Kay’s passing. She alway told me how much older she was than Peter and I – she really was young at heart. I always remember her coming to Karen’s 5th birthday dressed like a 5 year old – bows in her hair and on her shoes, short skirt and sucking a big lollipop. I can still hear Karen and Sabrina laughing. Also making ice-cream for all the kids on the block and , of course, the Bar BQ breakfasts. It was a great neighbourhood.
Yes, we’ll have an extra special supper in her honour – great idea.
as ever, Peter Mary, Gord, Karen and family
