October 11, 1933 – October 4, 2012
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our father and grandfather, David A. Macdonald
Born in Toronto, Dave spent his childhood and teenage years in Ontario. After high school Dave ventured to BigOne Inn, in Lake Country, where his passion for food grew and he became a talented chef. Moving to Western Canada with Philip 66 in 1957, he met and married his loving wife Geraldine O’Connor. Treasured memories of Papa Dave involved Sunday dinners, games of gin and his kind words. He was a generous host and was renowned for his roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. Our dad loved life, always catered to others’ needs first and was a big supporter of the Royal Canadian Legion. Dad spent many years as a salesman, cook for Hospice Calgary and a shuttle driver for Silverhill Acura.
Papa Dave will be dearly missed by his children, Patricia, Heather (Len) Webber, David (Jenny) Macdonald, Teri (Brian) McKinnon and Jo-Anne (Kevin) Watson; grandchildren; and his big extended family. He also leaves his sister, Sally (Rainer) Goldsmith and her family in United Kingdom. Dave was predeceased by his wife, Gerrie in 2007, and his daughter, Heather, in 2010.
He believed ‘life was too short to live shortly’.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Community Church (800 – 85 Street S.W.) on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, donations to Royal Canadian Legion #264, 1910 Kensington Road N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 3R5 will be graciously accepted.
