LYSTER, Lyall Lewis

June 25, 1959 – Balcarres, Saskatchewan
November 16, 2014 – Calgary, AB

Lyall Lyster, beloved husband of Miche Lyster of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at the age of 55 years.

Lyall – a dedicated husband, amazing dad, cool uncle, compassionate brother, and a loving son. He was true to himself always. He knew what mattered and focused on what counts. He showed respect and treated others with dignity. His quiet wisdom and nonjudgmental ways guided many through thick and thin.

Throughout Lyall’s childhood, he spent many hours outdoors at the farm, where his love of nature and animals was nurtured.

As a young man, he moved to Calgary, where he met and married the love of his life. Two beautiful sons were soon part of this French-Irish connection. These boys were gifted with having a stay-at- home dad during the early years of their lives. His focus and commitment to them remained, and his wisdom and strength is now a deep and integral part of their being.

Another significant part of Lyall’s life was at Froebel School. It was there that Lyall’s natural gifts impacted and benefitted hundreds of children.

Lyall had a calming presence, an intuitive understanding, and an ability to take change of the situation. These qualities were integral in the care he provided so selflessly for both his parents as they aged. Lyall was the steady hand and the rock that we all leaned on.

A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Lyall Lyster, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Telephone 403-243-8200.

  4. Isabel Barnsley :

Our sincere condolences to all of the Lyster, Powell, and Lewis families. I knew Lyall since he was born as we shared close friendship with your family in the Abernethy community. I think of all the children he helped in school in Calgary. Your parents, Don and Marion, enjoyed such quality of life in their last years in part due to Lyall’s daily attention. Great memories of Lyall and his special contributions will keep him forever in our hearts. With love, Isabel Barnsley & Family, Abernethy-Balcarres, Saskatchewan

  7. To The Lyster Family: It is with great sadness that I extend my condolences to you and your extended families on the passing of Lyall. He was my classmate from Grade 6 to Grade 12 at the Abernethy School and later at Balcarres High School. Lyall was such a nice guy and he could always make us laugh. He was very charasmatic and liked by all of us in our close-knit class. Funny, just last week I was going through a box of old photos, and a picture of Lyall popped up, one of him in Grade 12 during Initiation Day. There he was with that “mischevious look in his eyes” and his signature smirk. I can speak for all of my classmates that even though it’s been 37 years since we’ve all been together, it just seemed like yesterday when we were young. Rest in peace, Lyall.
