LUTZ – Louise Florence (nee Smith)

October 9, 1935 – June 5, 2011

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of a very gentle and gracious lady. Louise Florence Lutz passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at the age of 75 years.

Louise grew up on a farm west of Nanton with her parents, Stewart and Lucinda Smith, sister Jean and brother Gordon, who have all predeceased her.

Louise and Jim were married in March of 1956 and resided in Calgary for several years before semi-retiring to Brisco, BC and relocating to High River in 2003. They returned to Calgary in November 2009 to be closer to their family. Jim passed away suddenly in December 2009.

Louise was an excellent cook (best sourdough rye bread!!) and thoroughly enjoyed fishing, golfing, gardening, quilting, rug hooking, and was always ‘game’ to play backgammon, crib and bridge.

She was treasured and loved dearly by her children, Cheryl Morrier (Kit), Greg Lutz (Andrea), Bonnie Treavor (Garth) and Jacquee McKay. Louise cherished her grandchildren – Lauren and Jesse Lutz, Christopher Morrier, Bradley, Sarah and Randy Treavor, and Ryan and Travis McKay. She enjoyed her special times with step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Scott, Janice, Jayden, Griffin and Addie Morrier and Cam, Tanya, Chase and Taya Morrier. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Bev Lutz and Wava Smith and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

Louise was a good ole strong farm girl and greatly exceeded her doctor’s prognosis last June. We packed a lot of special memories, love and laughs in the past year with Mom.

A Celebration of Louise’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Forward condolences through If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to MacPhail and Forzani Colon Screening Centre, 3280 Hospital Drive N.W. Calgary, AB T2N 4N1, Telephone: 404-944-3800 or to the Chinook Hospice – Residents Use, 1261 Glenmore Trail S.W. The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Smillie, Sonja and Maureen, Calgary Palliative Care team – Dr. Elvira Smuts, Thuy and Josh, Glenda and Babilin from We Care; and the special angels at Chinook Hospice for their wonderful care, support and compassion.

Condolence Messages

  1. Liz Sutherland :

Please accept my deepest sympathy. Louise was a genuine lady and friend – the best! We attended Louise and Jim’s wedding on March 10 when my husband Jim (deceased) was best man. We had many good times with them during these years – in Calgary and at the farm. God bless you all at this time.

    Sincerely, Liz

  7. Raphael and Jacky Ugolini from Switzerland :

    Dear family
Our deep thoughts are with you; this bad news has struck us out of the blue. We did not really realize that Louise has been on the rim of her life. We just have read an article today about the contradiction but also agreement of physics and believe. Well, there are hints that physics is closer to proove eternity than ever before after comparing Einstein’s theory and near-death experiences.
Louise’s soul will live forever. We hope that you’ll soon have a normal life back.
We remember our very beautiful time with Louise and Jim in Brisco when we played “hunting bears” (for insiders only).

Raphael and Jacky, some of your relatives in Switzerland
