Low Horn, Alexis Jane

Alexis Jane “Jeannie” Low Horn, beloved wife of James (Dennis) First Charger of Siksika Nation, passed away after battling cancer, at Siksika Nation on Thursday, February 12, 2004 at the age of 50 years.

Alexis was born December 28, 1953 at the Blackfoot Hospital on Siksika Nation, AB and raised by Henrietta. She was very talented and skilled in her Native beadwork. Alexis was known for the beautiful beadwork that she sewed for friends and relatives. She received her education from Standard and Arrowood in AB and Bishop Grandin in Calgary. Alexis later attended Henderson College in Calgary and went on to study Social Work in Vancouver, BC.

Besides her loving husband of twenty-three years, Dennis First Charger, she is remembered by her children Denise Low Horn, Michelle First Charger and Brenna Yancey; her grandchildren Kylan and Tyron Mark, Sierra (Baby Girl) and Kalera Low Horn, Paige and Chayton Yancey and Mahealani Sinclair; the children she raised, Wyatt North Peigan and Amanda Fox; sixteen nieces; eleven nephews; twelve great-nieces; twenty-one great-nephews; three great-great-nephews; three great-great-nieces; her sisters Henrietta Low Horn, Delphine Star Light, Theresa (Frank) Stevens and Vera Stevens; her brothers Elliot (Grace) Low Horn, Joey Low Horn, Richard Runns and Steve White; her Aunts Clarisse Little Chief, Christine Little Chief and Annie Stabbed Last; her Uncles Roy (Linda) Little Chief and Phillip Little Chief; and her Trailer Pet of nine years, Ugly (her cat). Jeannie was predeceased by her Grandpa Low Horn in 1949, her grandma Juanita (Cutter) Low Horn in 1953, her grandpa Joe Little Chief in 1958 and her grandma Jane (Eagle Ribs) Little Chief in 1953; her father Henry Low Horn in 1973, her mother Noella Low Horn in 1992, her sisters, Yvonne White in 1989 and Rosemarie Low Horn in 1956; her brothers, Melvin Low Horn in 1968 and Samuel Low Horn in 1989; her Aunt Elizabeth Spring Chief in 1993; her nephews, Torry Low Horn in 1998, Sherwin Low Horn in 1995, Alonso White in 1994, Sherwood Low Horn in 1965, Myles Low Horn in 1981, Brent Strongman, Jr. in 1997 and Sheldon Cutter in 2002; and her niece Cheryl Low Horn in 1991.

Wake Services will be held at Denise Low Horn’s residence (Gleichen) on Wednesday, February 18, 2004, from 5:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M. Funeral Services will be held at Siksika Nation Community Center (Siksika Nation, AB) on Thursday, February 19, 2004, at 1:00 P.M.
