LOPPE, Herman (Bert)

July 2, 1921 – March 9, 2013

Bert Loppe, beloved father of Elaine, Dale, Darrel and Lorn, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the age of 91.

Bert was born on a farm near Oxbow, Saskatchewan in July 1921. He farmed in the Oxbow area with his brother Leonard until about 1946. He then moved to Calgary where he worked as a carpenter, laying hardwood floors and building camping and industrial trailers. Penley’s Dance Hall, a popular Calgary hotspot is where he met Florence. They were married in May 1950. A house on Bowness Road in Northwest Calgary became their first home in 1951. They lived there until 1985, raising four children, Lorn, Darrel, Dale and Elaine. After Elaine was born in 1961, he worked at Canada Post as a Letter Carrier until he retired. Then for a change of scenery Florence and Bert retired to Aldergrove, BC. While living in BC he enjoyed watching his only grandson Steven grow up. In their retirement years they spent a great deal of time traveling. They took many cruises and traveled extensively across Canada and the US in their camper Van. In 1993 they pulled roots and moved back to Calgary.

Bert’s wife, Florence predeceased him in 2003. He is remembered by three sons, Lorn of Calgary, Darrel (Marsha) of Lions Bay, BC and Dale of Calgary; and one daughter Elaine (Larry) Paul of Calgary; and one grandson Steven Loppe of Lions Bay, BC. He is also survived by a brother Leonard of Oxbow, Saskatchewan. He was predeceased by brothers, Norman, Leo and Irvin and a sister Margaret.
