May 23, 1942 – July 25, 2012

Laureen Hilda Louise Logan of Calgary passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at the age of 70 years, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Laureen was born in Grande Prairie, AB on May 23, 1942, the second oldest child of Harry and Ruth Logan of Crooked Creek, AB. Laureen lived in many different locales across Alberta, including Stettler, Peace River, Rocky Mountain House and Calgary, establishing many long friendships along the way. A devoted Catholic, Laureen had a long and fulfilling career with the Royal Bank. Laureen was a woman of many talents; a seamstress; artist and a fabulous cook. She loved to create. Special projects included sewing weddings gowns for her daughter and daughter-in-law, creating quilts for her grandchildren and great-grandchild, and painting numerous pictures for her home and others. Laureen loved to travel and was thrilled to be able to have traveled to Europe with her sisters, godchild and a niece. She enjoyed music and loved to sing.

Laureen is survived by her children, Tracey Mackie (Wes Schockenmaier) of Grovedale, AB, Darren Huculak and Todd Huculak, both of Calgary, and Trevor Huculak (Chelsee Lipiski) of Okotoks, AB; grandchildren, Chad Schockenmaier, Kaleb Shuttleworth Huculak, Tully Ann and Parker Huculak; and great-grandchild Mali Schockenmaier. Laureen is also survived by her mother Ruth Logan; brothers, Willard, Robert and Gerald; and sisters, Corriene, Dawn and Myrna; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by her father Harry Logan and brother Lonnie as well as her first husband Gerald Brian Mackie.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church (7103 – 20A Street Calgary, AB S.E.) on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.

  4. Gloria Huculak :

I am so relieved for Aunty Laureen that she no longer suffers. She is in the arms of our lord, looking down on her family with peace and love. She was a special lady and deserves this happiness. I know how hard it is to lose a parent. It leaves a huge hole in your life. Fill that hole with your family. Come together and heal each other. She will be missed. I send deepest condolences from Brian and I and also from Adolph and Mary Huculak. We all loved Laureen. She will always be a part of our family. As will you all.
    Love always Gloria

  5. Jules DeRose :

So very sorry to hear of your loss Trevor, Chelsee, Tully Ann and Parker.

No words will ever offer relief from your pain, but from recent personal experience, I can say that you will still feel your mom’s presence in your daily lives. And, I believe, one of the best ways to honor her memory is to live the kind of life she would have wanted you to…be joyful, loving, helpful, and kind, and leave this world a better place than before you were in it. I am sure your mom did!

Lots of love…Jules, Carmine, Matteo, Gabriella and Cristianno xoxox

  6. Jodi Carradice :

Dear Tracy, Darren, Todd and Trevor,

We were so saddened to hear of the recent passing of your mom. I’m sure she will be greatly missed by all of you and your extended families. I have many fond memories of celebrations and dinners between the Huculak’s and Johnston’s when we were living in Calgary just around the corner from your family. Your mom was always a gracious, warm and welcoming host and friend, and likely a second mom to my brothers. I know my mom will greatly miss her dear friend.

Our sincere condolences to all of you. Please know that our thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

    Yours,
    Jodi (Johnston) Carradice
