Over the many years I have worked with Realtors , never have I met a person who was a stronger and braver than she was … Liz faced the difficult challenges that crossed her path in the past few years with dignity and grace. It was with sadness that we lose someone like her far too early but the news of her passing came with much relief and that now at least I believe she is in a better place free of pain and suffering. Rest well in the hands of your maker Liz ..you earned it.

  7. Molly McDonald :

Joan and I grew up together at the U of A . Although we had our struggles we had some great times and made some great art. A keen mind, a sense of purpose and stimulating to just be around. After losing touch for years we found each other just walking on the street in Vancouver one day a few years ago. This gift of reconnecting I will treasure. Even as her illness made her body weak, that strength, determination and “I will take no B.S.” spirit remained. Underneath all this was her caring and softness, her humanity which simply made
her the strongest woman I have ever meet. To all of her family and friends I am so sorry we have lost her here in the physical world but her memory and spirit will remain with us forever. She will be watching with the angels.

I am sorry that you lost such an incredible mother/sister/grandmother. She had so much wisdom in her and such a rare talent to see things in such an off beat way. I smile now thinking of her energy. To laugh with her or to hear her wonderful deep voice. She will be very missed by so many.

  11. Cherie Demers :

Joan and I grew up together on the same block. We were good friends, always in competion with each other just for the joy of it. We shared the traits of deep, husky voices and gut busting determination.
Joan, who was born 3 months before me, used to tell me, “Cherie, I will always be first!”.
Joan was my first “bestie”. Now, as I am fighting a terminal illness, I see that, even at this, Joni went first.
Some people are so strong, so bright and so beautiful that they live forever in one’s mind. That was Joan for me.
My sincere condolences. I know what an amazing person she was and how very great your sorrow must be.
    With tears in my eyes,
    Cherie Demers

  12. I knew Joan while living in Cloverdale and we were at Strathearn Junior High together. She was the smartest, most confident girl I had ever met. I still remember her gold 3-speed and her dad’s watch that she always wore and her great laugh.
My deepest condolences to the Family.
