Herbert Linke of Calgary passed away peacefully on Monday, July 21, 2008 at the age of 89 years.
Herb was born on November 3, 1918 in Celle, Germany. He married his only love Annie in 1948, and in 1954 with their son, Volker, they emigrated from Germany. Settling in Brooks, AB, Herb worked as a Miner and Beekeeper. The family moved to Calgary in 1956 and Herb found work in construction, and later as a Baker with Weston Bakeries for 22 years. Herb retired at 65, and kept busy with his love of music, travel, gardening, fishing, and sailing the catamaran that he built. He was a hard-working and honest man.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Annie, to whom he was married for 60 years, and son Volker and wife Denise of Mirror, AB; and his family in Germany, especially Monika and Margaret of Ronnenberg. He will also be remembered by close friends of many years, the Brau family- Karl-Heinz, Elisabeth, Diane, and Marcus of Calgary, and especially the Clark family- Peter, Cherry, Mike, Joanne, and Renée, all who have loved and supported Herb and Annie through the many years, as well as many good friends and neighbours in the communities of Bowness and Rundle.
Herb’s family would like to thank the staff at the Forest Grove Care Centre for the respect and care given to Herbert during his stay there. In honouring Herbert’s request, no funeral service will be held. Funeral Arrangements in care of McINNIS & HOLLOWAY”S Eastside Memorial Chapel.
