LINDSAY, James (Jim) B.

May 27, 1933 – March 18, 2012

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Jim Lindsay on Sunday, March 18, 2012.

Jim was born in Clarkston, Scotland to James and Mary Lindsay and is survived by his wife Barbara; brother Alasdair (Irene); son Blair (Bev); daughter Diane (Rick); grandchildren, Stephen, Adam and David; nieces and nephews in both Canada and the UK. He was predeceased by his father, mother and older brother Iain.

Jim had fond memories of his childhood in Tayvallich and summers on the Isle of Jura, often getting into mischief with his brothers and cousins. He fought in the Korean War as a member of British Army and was a proud member of the Korean’s Veteran’s Association (KVA) and the Royal Canadian Legion # 285. In 2003, he was among a group of veterans who attended a remembrance ceremony in South Korea and was presented with a medal commemorating his regiment’s participation in the Korean War.

Jim married Barbara Mary Barnsley in 1959 and they immigrated to Montreal, Canada in 1960. Jim completed his CA degree in 1959 and was an avid fan of the Montreal Canadiens. He was an accomplished carpenter – a passion he inherited from his own father, and was a member of the Southern Alberta Woodworker’s Society (SAWS). He also enjoyed collecting tools, fishing and skiing.

Jim moved to Alberta with his family in 1981 and worked for the Town of Airdrie, the City of Calgary and Minolta before retiring in 2002. Jim loved spending time with his family and took great enjoyment attending his grandsons’ hockey and soccer games over the years. He willingly chauffeured his family wherever and whenever they needed to go. He will be remembered for his generous spirit and willingness to lend a hand at a moment’s notice.

The family will hold a private service, at his request.
