May 12, 1956 – January 9, 2013
Paul Liminana of Calgary passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the age of 56 years. Paul has passed into the loving arms of the Lord God, who he came to know as his saviour and redeemer.
Paul Liminana was born May 12, 1956 in Cartagena, Spain. He was the first of four children born to Pablo and Leocadia Liminana. He has three sisters: Lidia, Elisabet, and Debora.
In 1960, he emigrated with his family to Germany, where he excelled in academics and soccer. In 1967, he emigrated to Calgary, Canada during the Calgary Stampede. He spent the overseas flight reading his Peter Pim and Billie Ball English textbook, from which he learned to say “I speak not English”, a phrase that became his nickname with the neighborhood boys for many years.
In Calgary, Paul attended David D. Oughton Elementary School, Sir Wilfred Laurier Jr. High School, and Forest Lawn High School. He drove a pizza delivery car during high school, and graduated in 1974. He received a music diploma from Grant Macewan University in Edmonton, and an English degree from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver.
Paul was a lover of knowledge, literature, music, and travel. He played guitar from an early age and enjoyed jam sessions with friends. Paul lived in and visited cities around the world. He returned to Spain often, where he enjoyed the love of his close-knit extended family. He worked various driving and delivery jobs, enjoying the freedom that driving afforded.
Paul was raised in a Christian home. He believed in God, and that all persons should be treated as equals. Paul spoke from the heart and expected the same from others. He delighted everyone who met him with his ready smile, quick wit, jet black curly hair, and green eyes. He had a natural, unaffected manner with everyone, and developed a sardonic sense of black humor.
Paul faced his extended terminal illness with immense courage, and never abandoned his sense of humor. He loved his family and was beloved by them. Paul is survived by his loving family: his parents Pablo and Leocadia; three sisters, Lidia, Elisabet, and Debora (Steve); nieces Leah (Junior), Jenelle (Malcolm), Alexa, Christina and Rachel and nephew Ian-Paul. He is also survived by a large and loving extended family in Spain.
Funeral Services will be held at Centre Street Church “Central Campus” (3900 – 2nd Street N.E.) on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Paul and his family are deeply grateful to the medical professionals who attended him through his illness, his Homecare and Palliative Homecare doctors, nurses, and caregivers, and the devoted staff of Agapé hospice, who cared for Paul and his family during their most difficult time. The family is further indebted to all who prayed faithfully for Paul, most notably the congregation of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Cochrane, but also many others of faith.
