Adel Leonard passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on Friday, October 11, 2013 at the age of 85 years.
Adel was born on May 15, 1928 in Denmark. She was the third oldest child of Nels and Anna Jensen’s five children. The family immigrated to Canada in 1930, first to a farm near Standard, then to a farm at Gleichen, AB. Adel and Herb Leonard were married in 1949 at the Danish Luthern Church in Calgary, AB. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this year. Herbs position as a highway Engineer with Alberta Transportation took them to many locations throughout their married life- some of which included Edmonton, Bonnyville, Bashaw, Breton, Winfield, Medicine Hat, and finally to Calgary where they resided for the past 47 years.
Adel loved the outdoors- camping, gardening, sewing, swimming and bowling. She was awarded Volunteer of the Year by the YMCA in 1996 and was a swimming instructor for 25 years. She and Herbs life journey took them to many places and they made many friends over the years.
Adel is survived by her loving husband Herb; sister Rose; Aunt Sonja; and numerous nieces and nephews. Adel will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends.
Adel was predeceased by her mother and father; in-laws Shirley & Johnny Devoldere; mother-in-law Dabbin; brothers Berge & Sven Jensen; sister Elly Wallace and nephew Teddy Jensen.
Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
