LeMAISTRE, John David (Dave)

July 9, 1950 – September 16, 2011

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John David “Dave” LeMaistre beloved husband of Liz of Calgary on Friday, September 16, 2011 at the age of 61 years. A much-loved husband, father and grandfather, Dave passed away after a brief ten month battle with cancer. His common sense thinking, combined with a quick witty sense of humour served him well throughout his life and provided comfort to all of us during his final days.

Dave was born in Winnipeg in 1950 to John and Suzanne (Dimock) LeMaistre. Dave enjoyed an energetic and sports-centered lifestyle pursuing downhill skiing, golfing, curling and playing pool. In addition, Dave was an avid camper and Lucy, his latest four-legged best friend, will surely miss the long walks and campfire gatherings. During the past number of years he and Liz also had the opportunity to travel extensively and treasured the happy memories of those holidays.

Dave will be sorely missed by his devoted wife of forty-one years, Liz (Anderson); his children, Jeff (Brandy), Chris (Dawn) and Mike (Kristina); and his seven grandchildren, Makaela, Nolan, Sydney, Reid, Lily, Ashley and Isabelle. He is also survived by his six siblings, Art, Jim, Mark, Mary, Anne and Susan and by their children and grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at New Life Community Church (7642 – 22nd Street S.E.) on Friday, September 23, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made in lieu of flowers (due to allergies) directly to the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank Society, 5000 – 11 Street S.E., Calgary, AB T2H 2Y5, Telephone: (403) 253-2059, www.calgaryfoodbank.com. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all who have offered their love, prayers and support during this difficult time. Special thanks to the medical staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, the home care nurses, the counsellors and caregivers at the Southwood Hospice. Your dedication to service is truly astounding.

In living memory of Dave LeMaistre, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.

    Liz & family,

We are so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing but we know that the pain is now over and he will be in a better place. I am glad that I was able to see him for the last time on Wednesday when I got back from vacation. I pushed him around in this wheelchair for a bit but I could sense that the end was near. He was a good buddy and I will miss him very much.

No better friends and memories could have been made when we were in Gillam and Sundance. The winter treks with the kids and dogs and camp fires in the snow. The holiday meals we shared. The friends and family we met who came to visit. We were always together.
Dave always had a little laugh and nothing seemed to upset him. He loved life.
Liz our hearts and prayers go out to you and your family. Memories will never pass away.
