  1. Patrice Jegou-Oyelese :

To the Leggett Family and to all those who knew Mary and loved Mary,

May God’s peace encompass about you at this time. Mary was a very special woman and a person who will be deeply missed. Her smile and wonderful sense of humour brought many people, myself included, much joy. I am honoured to have known her, and though her passing brings with it much sorrow, the memories of Mary’s love for her children, grand-children, family, the sport of figure skating, many friends, and animals, temper feelings of grief and loss. I’ll miss the charming lilt of her English-accent, and her easy laughter. Though my heart is heavy knowing Mary is no longer here, there is a peace in knowing that she is no longer suffering with the terrible illness that took her from us. Rest in peace Mary. You are loved and will be missed.
    Your friend,
Patrice Jegou-Oyelese (sister-in-law to Mark Leggett)

  7. Dear Mary,
Though I didn’t know you for very long, you nevertheless left a marvelous impression on me. Our occasional chats during my transition as a member of the Springbank Figure Skating Club executive were supposed to be about the business of skating but instead became very personal conversations. We shared our personal losses, our sons who left us far too early.

Your dedication to skating, and in particular to our youngest skaters in the CanSkate program was impressive. While my children were still in CanSkate, I recall seeing you strap on your own skates to ensure all of the youngsters were well taken care of. That wasn’t so very long ago! You kept the program and the club running smoothly and you kept us all in line 🙂

I’m sorry I cannot attend your memorial service today Mary, though I wish I could. I think you’ll understand…I’m off to see my children skate at the arena as they prepare for their first competition tomorrow.

My heartfelt condolences to your family Mary. You leave quite a legacy. Rest well.

  8. To Mary’s family!

Mary was so well respected and loved by our skating community. As a young emigrant from the east block country of the former Czechoslovakia Mary took such a keen interest in my own journey when adjusting to the life in Canada. She was kind and always went the extra step to make the testing or competitive experience of my students extra special and positive. I will always retain the memory of her smile and will try to pass of tine bit of her noble persona.
Despite of not having the privilege to know any of her family myself I would like to extend my sincere condolences.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mary-I was one of the fortunate ones who met your mother through skating. She was a great lady that loved the sport and shared her love of it with others, always with a kind word and offers of encouragement. The Springbank skating club has been very lucky in having her on their board and working with them for all these years. My sympathies to all of you.
