Condolence Messages

  1. For Audrey and all the Family
I was so sorry to see Tom’s picture in the Herald this morning and to learn of his death. I worked with Tom at the University of Calgary in the drama department from 1989 to 1991. We shared a shop – Tom for carpentry, me for props. I remember you dropping by Audrey. Tom could build anything and was a great help. We enjoyed each other’s company. Tom built a beautiful wooden cradle for our first born and it is a family treasure. My husband and I send our condolences to you all.

I only met Thomas Legg briefly on two occasions but I’m certainly familiar with his numerous skills and talents. 7. Brian Richardson :

There was a bar which sat in the Warehouse Theatre in Winnipeg for many years and got great usage. Tom built it for Sean O’Casey’s The Plough And The Stars at Manitoba Theatre Centre. I remember when Tom finished it and all of us in the cast and crew expressed our awe at such a beautiful piece of work. He was so proud of it. That to me was Tom, his love of his craft was extended to life and to those around him, especially those who appreciated that craft. His passing is indeed a sad event. May he rest in peace and may you find peace in his rest.

  8. I worked for and with Tom for many years and was always learning from him. He taught me not to do the first thing that came into my head on a new project but to take the time to think of three ways to tackle it and then choose. He taught me to put my tools away at the end of the day and look back at the clean shop and enjoy what I had done. He was a true Master and he lived his dreams. I toast him and his life well lived.

  9. I was a student at the U of C from 88-92. I spent a great many hours in the shop with Tom and it was there that Tom gave me the gift I will have with me for the rest of my life. Tom’s radio was tuned to CBC Stereo and woe betide any thoughts of touching it or changing the dial. Now whenever and wherever I am working, Theatre or day job, the radio is tuned to CBC (now radio 2) and classical. I often think of Tom and those days while listening. Thank you Tom.

  11. My sincere condolences to Thomas’ family. During the late 1990’s Thomas introduced Yukon and Alaska-bound visitors from all over the world to the wonders of Canada’s North through his renderings of Robert Service’s stories. Thomas performed for clients of Cardinal Travel Tours as they embarked for the North. I’ll always remember his innate ability to transport his listeners to another place and time with his wonderful voice and superb performances. Thanks for the memories, Thomas.

  13. Sandra Jean Legg (Kaytor) :

I am Tom’s brother Robert Legg’s daughter. I was actually looking for something about Aunt Elsie as she passed away yesterday. That would be the mother of the Special nephew Mike Elliot. I hadn’t heard about my Uncle Tom’s passing. I only remember him from when I was little, he’d drop by once in a while when he was in from I think Winnipeg. I always admired my Uncle Tom. The world will miss him dearly. He had such a gift.

  14. My profound condolences to everyone close to Thomas. I am so saddened to learn of his passing only this evening. I met Thomas in 1979 at the Calgary Flying Club where he loved to be. We flew together many times in “CBJ” and many other memorable adventures in the sky. I recall visiting him one summer at the McDougall Church near Morley where he was the Caretaker living in a tiny cabin nearby. He loved the outdoors and the solitude. We spent hours together talking and dreaming of flying, laughing and story telling. What a laugh! I proudly hang his “The Pilots Desiderata” in my office. I was so deeply touched by his poem “Night Flight” especially after learning he continued flying with an instructor into his senior years. A true gentleman artist in so many disciplines. His Spirit, I am certain is soaring with glee- unrestricted. I will never forget Thomas Legg-
