  7. Marlene Harris :

    Dear Keltie and family,
I was delighted to see the lovely photo of your dad in yesterday’s Calgary Herald obituaries, and to know that he lived into his nineties! My mother, Helen Bakkan, who knew your mom and dad much better than I did, passed away at age 73, a full 20 years sooner than your dad! I’m sure he was a treasured grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed. Maybe you don’t remember that at St. David’s United Church many years ago, I crossed paths with you and your children. I had been involved in teaching Sunday School for a few years I remember. Although I haven’t attended St. David’s Church for the last 10 years, I have been a very active member of Calgary First Spiritualist Church where ‘death’ is demystified and proof that one’s spirit survives physical death is forthcoming. I always remember the kindness and generosity of your mom and dad whenever I use the lovely crystal vase they gave to Don and I when we were married 47 years ago! That vase has helped us focus on the beauty all around us, especially when full of beautiful blooms. And you can rest assured that your mom and dad both are still the beautiful people they always were, even without their physical bodies! In A Course in Miracles, to be without a body is to be in our natural state! They are both alive and well and will be forever supporting you and your family. Don and I send our love and best wishes to you and all your family for a speedy recovery from the loss of your wonderful dad, grandfather and great-grandfather. Sincerely, Marlene and Don Harris

  9. Maxine Gilmore :

    Keltie & Family,

I am writing this for my Dad (Jack Whitley) – that was a good friend of Doug’s while they were both living at Dreamview Village.
My Dad moved over to the Rocky Ridge Retirement Community in October of last year so was not in touch with your Dad since the move.
This may sound strange….but it was about 3 weeks ago that I was mentioning Doug to my Dad and wondering how he was doing?
I always try to read the obits in the paper everyday but I am so sorry I missed this one!
My Dad & I were out today doing errands and I needed to make a u-turn – we happened to be right beside Dreamview so I pulled in there.
At the same time the residents were coming out of the Dreamview clubhouse from the coffee hour so we stopped and chatted.
I asked one of the ladies if Doug was still at Dreamview and how was he doing?
My Dad & I were so sorry to hear the news that Doug just recently passed away. We wished we had known and could have been there for his memorial service.
Doug was such a wonderful man – such a gentleman and loving soul. He will definitely be missed!
Our hearts and thoughts go out to you.
My Dad (Jack Whitley) is doing well and liking his new home…only 2 blocks from where we live.
He turned 91 in April and walks over to our place for coffee which is great. As you know, at this age the time we get to spend with them is a gift and precious! My sister and I enjoy all the time we spend with him.
Take care – may all the great memories stay with you forever!
    Love,
    Jacke Whitley & Maxine
