LEE, Mark William

July 26, 1967 – Coronation, Alberta
January 5, 2015 – Red Deer, Alberta

Mark Lee, beloved husband of Laurie of Red Deer, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2015 at the age of 47 years. He was a family man, a devoted husband and loving father. The most important thing to Mark was his family.

Mark is survived by his loving wife of twenty-five years of marriage and thirty-two years of partnership Laurie; his children, Jordan (Milen), Brandon, Gavin, Maeghen, and Krissi; his grandchildren, Brookelyn, Addisyn, Bella, and Zooey; his mother Gale Lee; his siblings, John (Michelle) and Nadine; his sister-in-law Terri; his brother-in-law Mark (Aimee); and numerous friends.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Ellen and Les.

Mark enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia, especially anything representing the “Atlanta Braves.” He was an avid runner, and in his long running career he never had a DNF (did not finish). In 2014 he accomplished his goal of 1500 miles. Mark was indeed a “Brave” man.

“He always ran a great race”

A Celebration of Mark’s Life will be held at Holiday Inn South (37471 Hwy 2 South, Red Deer, AB) on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family would like to thank their amazing friends and extended family for all of their incredible support. If friends so desire, a Trust Fund has been set up in the Mark Lee family name. Donations can be made at any Servus Credit Union in Alberta.

In living memory of Mark Lee, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, CALGARY, AB T2E 2V6, Telephone: 1-800-661-1599.

I was running with the Red Deer Runners just prior to Christmas and had the opportunity to run with Mark. I was stunned and shocked when I heard while on vacation in Mexico about the condition that Mark was in after racing with friends of mine. We chatted about ultra races each had done and about what our goals were for this upcoming season. I heard last night prior to our Wednesday night run of the tragic news and wish to pass my condolences to the family. It’s a terrible loss of a great father, husband and runner!

We are so heartbroken for your loss. There are no words to express the sadness of the passing of a dearly loved one but there are many words to describe the love, the joy and the memories that are still with you and still embrace Mark’s essence. It was always evident that Mark was a devoted family man proud of his wife and his children, his most cherished blessings. He is not gone from you, he lives on in each of you, his humor, his example, his integrity, his devotion, his discipline, his wisdom, his love.

These things that you remember, that you model yourself after, these things continue to reflect what he brought and contributed to this world. We love you and will be praying for your faith, strength, and healing and for the quick return of brighter days with beloved memories.

  44. I am so sorry for your loss. I never knew Mark, but I met Laurie and her kids in the ICU waiting room, when my husband was brought in at 6am on January 2. They will get through this together. I know this, because even in their time of distress, they comforted me. Their love and strength as a family is so abundant that they have some to share with perfect strangers. I wish neither of our families had to go through this, but I’ll forever be grateful for the kindness you showed me. I hope you will find peace.
