LEBERT – Robert Bruce

November 17, 1959 – June 7, 2010

How can you close a great novel when you haven’t read the end of the book? Sadly, we lost Robert, to brain cancer, after a lengthy and arduous battle. Robert was 50 years old and far too young to leave us.

Robert was educated at Fanshawe College in broadcast journalism, and at NAIT in business. Robert’s work took him from radio broadcasting to planning and allocations at the United Way and finally to insurance and investments with IAP and DFS. Robert led an authentic life and he was admired for his positive and optimistic attitude, and his zest for life. Because of Rob’s legacy, a new chapter will begin, and two young boys will discover what it takes to become a great man like their father.

Rob was an amazingly handsome, caring, and romantic husband, as well as a devoted and attentive father. He lived with the light of thoughtfulness as his compass, always shining toward our family.

Rob will be remembered, lovingly, by his wife of sixteen years, Shelley Lebert (nee McKeen); two young sons, Taylor and Brendan Lebert of Calgary; parents, Ronald and Colleen Lebert; sister Julie (Mike) Power; brother Todd (Cheryl) Lebert; and sister Leslie (Mike) Stipic of Windsor, ON; and brother Ken Lebert of Kamloops, BC.

Funeral Services will be held at Southwood United Church (10690 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary) on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Hospice Calgary – The Living with Cancer Program, 1245 – 70th Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2H 2X8, Telephone: (403) 263-4525, www.hospicecalgary.com. This program is unique to those diagnosed with a terminal cancer and was a life-saving program for our family and our children. The family would like to give a sincere thank you to the UCW at Southwood United Church for all their kindness and support.

In living memory of Robert Lebert, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. CALGARY Telephone: 1-800-661-1599.

Offer Condolence for the family of LEBERT – Robert Bruce

Condolence Messages

  1. James McAlpine :

It is with great sadness that I have learned through my son Scott, of Bobby’s passing. My thoughts and heart go out to his wife and children, parents, Colleen and Robert and all his brothers and sisters. He is still Bobby to me as he was when we all lived together in Windsor many years ago. He and my son were great competitors on the Dominion golf course in those days. I’m sure that Bobby’s love and influence will remain with all those that he touched throughout his journey in this life, short as it was. Rest in peace Bobby, your valiant struggle is over.

We find comfort in talking of our memories shared with your family. Some include special zoo trips with the kids to crazy soap wrapping before your Open House.
Rob was always present. Whether it be settling the kids with a book or giving you one of his great back massages after a long day.
We are so very thankful for all the times.
We will miss Rob more than he will ever know.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the loss of your husband, Rob and dad to Taylor and Brendan. My husband Rob and I only knew your husband for a short time through Hospice Calgary. My husband was also diagnosed with brain cancer in September 2009 and this is when we met your Rob. He became Rob #1 and my Rob was called Rob #2 at the Hospice. There was a immediate connection and support. Your Rob had a wonderful sense of humor he was a talented writer and there was always stories about his boys and Shelley. He was a proud father and husband. My Rob died at 53 years of age this January. I also have two children. I just wanted to let you know, I know the intense loss this is for you and your family. We want to pass on our condolences to you and your family. Thinking of you .

Shelley, Mary and I express our deepest sympathies over the loss of Robert, your best friend, and Taylor and Brendan over the loss of your loving Dad. Robert (known to me as Bobby) was my best friend growing up in Windsor, Ontario. We truly enjoyed our childhood and teen years together, with many fond rememberances. I shall indeed miss my dear friend. I know that he has gone home to Heaven to be with the Lord, where one day again we will be re-united with all “the saints in glory gathered by the crystal sea”.
Our prayers are with you Shelley!
