LAZZAROTTO, Ava Dianne Nina (Omura)

March 26, 1962 – February 24, 2012

Our beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend passed away on Friday, February 24, 2012 after a courageous and selfless battle with cancer.

Ava was born in Lethbridge, AB and spent her early years there before moving to Calgary in 1985 to manage and expand a clothing store Body Things and then on to a graphic design position at Digi-Rule Inc. After that she attended SAIT where she earned her network support certification which led her to her management position at IBM Global Services which she held for the last sixteen years.   poet, musician and performing artist, Ava had a passion for yoga and was a certified instructor.  She also was an assistant for the Calgary Japanese Language School.  Ava contributed her time to many communities including the Calgary Aikido community, hockey community volunteer, and Scouts Canada.

Ava was loved by everyone who had the chance to know her. She was soft-spoken and had a selfless soul and truly giving spirit. Ava lived her whole life with grace, compassion, dignity and never complained right to her last days. She was always thankful and was always giving help or support to the people around her without ever expecting anything in return. Ava was one of the few people who knew the true meaning of unconditional love and those who knew her would have been blessed to receive it. She was a totally unique person and it can be said there is not another person as kind-hearted as she. She was a compass, guided with love in the centre, which is obvious by some of her last words to us during her last days. She said “love everyone”. She will be truly missed by all.

Ava never gave up hope and did whatever she could do to stay close with her treasured family for as long as possible. She leaves behind to fondly remember her, her loving husband Fred; two sons, Dakota and Logan; her sister Gina Davies; mother and father-in-law Jack and Carol Omura; sister-in-law Sharon Omura (Dan Morrison) and their children Andrew and Keilin; brother-in-law Robert (Niki Wyman) Omura; sister-in-law Jeanette Omura and her children, Ariana, Patrick (Joni) and their daughter Mackenzie; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Ava was predeceased by her parents Charles and Nina Lazzarotto; her grandparents, Peter and Anna Lazzarotto and George and Harpina Russakow; as well as many other aunts and uncles.

A Celebration of Ava’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. You may forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Condolence Messages

  1. My condolences to Ava’s family. My heart goes out to Ava’s husband and two sons. Ava was my manager over the last year and half, looking back it brings a smile to my face knowing that during our work meeting a majority of our time was spent discussing families and kids. Ava spoke so highly of her family, and you can tell she was a well balance individual who had her priorities set correctly. Ava you will be truly missed.

    To Ava’s family and friends…

I was very involved in IBM’s Employees’ Charitable Fund campaign and had the pleasure to work alongside Ava during the planning and execution of events that raised significant funding for the charities we supported. I know, first hand, how selfless Ava was in helping those less fortunate than herself.

Indeed, all of Ava’s wonderful attributes that have been captured in the announcment of her passing encapsulate just who this wonderful woman was. She will be remembered by us all…and my deepest sympathy go out to her family and dear friends who will miss her so much more than those of us who only got a glimpse into into the heart of this beautiful soul.

    Fred, Dakota, Logan and family,

We were deeply saddened to hear the news of Ava’s passing. I was very fortunate and blessed to have had Ava as my supervisor when I worked at Bodythings. She was the best you could ever ask for and just as sweet. I looked up to her with the upmost respect and cannot say enough about her. I was pleasantly surprised to see her again and meet her husband as well as boys when my husband coached Dakota’s hockey team a couple of years ago. She had not changed a bit.

Ava, may you rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with Fred, Dakota, Logan, and family.

    With our sincere sympathies,

Lance, Lisa, Stephen, and Scott Moore

  24. Sandra Himschoot :

To all of Ava’s Family & Friends:
Ava was such a Sweetheart, and I regret not seeing her again before her passing. She was always so humble, with an awesome sense of humor, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to get to know her better during our early Info Tech days. I thought it was humorous how she said “I can’t be seen without my make up!” Then she proceeded to tell me the story about the time that she did not have her make-up on, and some people did not recognize her without it. The way she told the story was very humorous. She was a wise person, and had the attitude of a student ~ always more to find out & learn, while still being a teacher and role model for others at the same time. Her spirit will live on in our hearts, especially in those closest to her. Sincerest sympathies to Gina, Fred, Dakota, and Logan.
