Joseph Rene Raymond Lavallee, fondly known to his friends as “Ray”, passed away early Wednesday morning, November 13, 2013 at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, Alberta.
Ray leaves behind his loving children, Jay-Lynn Blackmore (husband, Jared) of Calgary, AB, Juliette Gale (husband, Walter) of Airdrie, AB, and Dan Neault (wife, Krista) of Winnipeg, MB; his grandchildren, Sharissa, Shawn, and Nicholas; and great-granddaughter Serenity.
Ray is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Martin Lavallee (wife, Evelyn) of Winnipeg, MB, Adrian (Sandy) Lavallee (wife, Joyce) of New Hamburg, ON, Denise Johnson of Gimli, MB, Lillian Madden (husband, Bill) of Pefferlaw, ON, and Emile Lavallee of Airdrie, AB. He is a loving Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Ray was predeceased by his mother and father, Juliette and Joseph Lavallee.
Ray was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. After spending a couple of years in the Navy, he lived in Southern & Northern Alberta and Southern BC before settling down in Calgary, Alberta when he retired. Ray made friends wherever he travelled, especially when spending whatever free time he had cruising the countryside on his motorcycle.
Ray’s passion was working with troubled teens, youth at risk and over the years he opened his home to many foster children, even becoming a Foster Parent of the Year. Ray spent a lot of time volunteering with CNIB, Big Brothers & Sisters, and received the Melvin Jones Award for fundraising through the Lion’s Club.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Sunday, November 17, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
A Celebration of Ray’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 10:30 a.m.
Memorial Services will also be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (4000 Portage Ave, Winnipeg, MB) on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with inurnment to follow.
