Merna Ruby Latimer of Calgary went home to her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, passing away peacefully on Friday, April 29, 2005 at the age of 65 years.
Merna was born to Myron and Thelma Latimer on March 24, 1940 at the Grace Hospital in Calgary. The second eldest of four children, Merna was raised on her parent’s farm in Madden, AB with her siblings Evelyn, Warren and Linda. Merna graduated from Beaver Dam High School and at the age of 17 moved to Calgary where she embarked on a lifelong career at Field Title Services. At Field Title, Merna met “the love of her life”, David Smith, to whom she dedicated her life as a loyal employee and lifelong companion. Not having had children of her own, Merna took her nieces and nephews under her wing and provided for them in many ways. She is survived by her mother Thelma Latimer; her husband David Smith and his children; Michael (Nancy) Smith, Geoffrey (Alexandra) Smith, and Jessica (Edward) Abt and their children; her sisters and brother, Evelyn (Joe) McCool, Linda Latimer and friend John Marta, Warren (Donna) Latimer; her nieces and nephews, Eldon, Nora, Warren, Kyle, Jacqueline, Ryan and Leah and their families; as well as many special relatives and friends. Merna was predeceased by her father Myron in 2001.
