Larsen, Maxine Lillian

Maxine Larsen passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at the Foothills Medical Centre the age of 83 years.

Maxine was born on August 23, 1925 in Alix, AB and grew up in Rocky Mountain House, AB. She graduated as a nurse from the University of Alberta in 1947 and received her BSc in 1948. The majority of her career was spent with the Calgary Public Health Department. Mother’s first love was her family. She married Stan Larsen on October 28, 1950 and together they built a home based on love, respect and friendship. They shared a passion for life that never stopped. Maxine’s second love was life itself. She thrived on meeting new people and experiencing new adventures. Her friends and relatives were extremely important to her and they sustained Mom throughout the challenges of life. Maxine was always ready for an adventure and now has left us to embark on the greatest adventure of all; New Life

Maxine is survived by her children Michael (Karen) of Crossfield, Stephen of Calgary, Gwen (Randy) Wheeler of Cold Lake and daughter-in-law Kim of Calgary; grandchildren Catherine (Jared) Ball, Christian and Ian Larsen, Kieran, Sage and Wade Wheeler, Emma, Mitchell, and Anika Larsen; as well as great grandchild Rory Ball. She is also survived by three loving sisters-in-law, Lana Withage, Hilda Wilcox, and Nancy Evans; and numerous nieces and nephews. Maxine was predeceased by her husband Stan, daughter Jane, parents Statia and Gus Urch and her brother Greg Urch.

Memorial Services will be held at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church (1121- 14th Avenue SW) on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Kristi Bird of the Church of the Good Shepherd officiating. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Calgary Herald Christmas Fund, (P.O. Box 2400 Station M Calgary AB T2P 0W8) or to a charity of one’s choice.

In living memory of Maxine Larsen, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: (403) 243-8200.
