December 25, 1923 – April 27, 2013

Alice “JOYCE” Lane passed away at Southwood Hospice in Calgary, AB on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the age of 89 years.

Mom was born in Edmonton, AB on December 25, 1923 to Peter and May McBride; she lost her Dad at an early age. After living several years in Alberta, Mom moved to Watson, SK where Grandma met John McNab which ended up in marriage and they were blessed with two girls Donna and Joan.

In 1944, Mom moved to Saskatoon and worked at the Sanatorium for four years, and then she went to work at MacCosham Van Lines where she met and married the love of her life Don Lane. Later Mom went to work at the Bay where she enjoyed her work and new found friends. Mom was a dedicated member of Balmoral United Church, getting great satisfaction from her pastoral care work. After retirement, Mom and Dad travelled extensively, spending their winters in warmer climates.

Joyce is survived by her loving daughter Heather and her husband Gordon Forsyth; her grandsons Thomas John (Janet) and Scott Lane (Kelly) of Calgary; sister Joan and her husband Charlie Pshebnicki; sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Don; infant children Brian and Wendy; Dad and Mom John and May McNab; and sister Donna Kimpton.
Mom requested that there was to be no funeral. A private interment for family will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens where she will be laid to rest by my Dad.

So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don’t think we’re far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I’m right here, in your heart.

I love you Mom and I will miss you. Thanks for being such a wonderful Mom. You have taught me so much. Love Heather. Xxxooo

  1. Hello Heather and family:

Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your mom. I was blessed to have known Joyce and so sad to hear she had gone to hospice. Joyce had a way of being thankful for all of life’s gifts, even the smallest ones; she taught me a lot. Your mom will lives on in you, Heather.

  2. Heather Scott (Wiese) :

    Heather and family,
My mother (Anne Scott) was a friend of your mother, having met her while attending Balmoral church. I did meet your mother, and remember her as such a nice person with a beautiful smile. My mother; who passed away in 2010, always spoke so highly of your mother. Now they are together again in heaven.
    With deepest sympathy, Heather
