LAMBE, Darlene Beverly (nee Boraas)

LAMBE, Darlene Beverly (nee Boraas)

 July 29, 1945 – Madison, MN

July 26, 2013 – Calgary, AB

In the presence of her loving family, Darlene Lambe passed away peacefully on Friday, July 26, 2013 with the same grace, dignity, and courage which she lived.

Darlene grew up on a farm near Madison, Minnesota where her father still lives to this day.  She grew up with the sense of community that comes from having a large and loving family with nine uncles and four aunts. Darlene went on to train as a kindergarten teacher at the University of Moorhead where she would meet her husband Byron, of forty-five years. As a teacher Mrs. Lambe provided her students the same love, gentle kindness and excitement for the world that she would go on to share with her own children and grandchildren.  Darlene took ten years off from teaching to stay home as a mom but outside of that served and loved her kindergarten children at Moorhead, Bearspaw and Calgary for thirty years.

Over the years, Darlene spent many happy summers at Sylvan Lake treasuring her time spent with children and grandchildren.  It was during this time that Darlene came to be known as “Magra” to her grandchildren, a tradition that lives on to this day.  It was her deep and abiding love for her grandchildren that gave her the will to maintain her love of life through a six-year battle with cancer that would include five difficult surgeries and countless treatments.

Darlene is survived by her loving husband Byron; three adoring sons, Ryan, Jonathan (Sarah), and Eric; and six much loved grandchildren, Myla, Max, Miller, Marcus, Georgia, and Svea.  She is also survived by her father Beaumont Boraas; brother Berdell Boraas; sister Ruth Schmitz; and countless friends.  Darlene was predeceased by her mother Delores Boraas (nee Storlien) and step-mother Dianne Boraas (nee Martin).

A Celebration of Darlene’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.  In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes to the fight against cancer may be made in Darlene’s honour, and her son’s name Jon Lambe at: http://www.conquercancer.ca/site/TR/Events/Alberta2013. The family would like to thank Darlene’s wonderful circle of friends, the care providers at the Foothills Hospital as well as both Agape and Rosedale hospices for feeling Darlene’s spirit and going to incredible lengths alongside Darlene in her battle against this disease.  The family would also like to thank all of those who raise money and awareness against this disease and specifically those who will be riding in the ride to Conquer Cancer on August 11, 2013.

In living memory of Darlene Lambe, a tree will be planted Big Hill Springs Park Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.

  14. I was saddened to hear of your loss today while reading the alumni news of Madison High School, where Darlene was a cheerleader. I graduated 2 years before Darlene, but she made such a favorable impression on everyone even in the classes above her. She was a great role model with her positive and caring attitude. Darlene was a friend and will be missed by many in the Madison Mn community.
