Gertrud Kroell “Gerti” (nee Plaschke), of Calgary, beloved wife of the late William Kroell, passed away following a brief battle with cancer on Monday, July 28, 2008 at the age of 77 years.
Gerti was born in Bochum, Germany on July 17, 1931, and immigrated to Canada in 1969, settling in Kitchener, ON, and later Calgary. She married William on June 12, 1972. Gerti worked as a driving instructor. Their most memorable vacation together was driving the MacKenzie and Alaska Highways. Gerti’s greatest passion was for classical music, and she was a long-time supporter of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. She also loved to do crosswords, and was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. Her greatest challenge in life was coping with the death of William in 1986.
Gerti will be lovingly remembered by her sister and brother-in-law Adelheid and Herbert Eiden, and their sons Thomas and Heribert Eiden; and by her brother-in-law and his wife, Hans and Johanna Kroell. Besides her husband William, she was predeceased by her nephew Stephan.
