KRAUSE, Ronald Clyde

July 6, 1945 – Medicine Hat, AB
October 8, 2017 – Calgary, AB

Our cherished Clyde passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at the age of 72.

He was the beloved and devoted husband of Doris Krause (Holmlund); they celebrated 50 years of marriage this year. Family was paramount to Clyde, he was a dedicated and caring father to Wendy (Alexis) Gorloo and Karen (Scott) Walters, and grandfather to Xavier, Zennen, Taleo, and Azaro Gorloo, and Ethan and Sophia Walters

His family also included his siblings Gary (Nancy), Stan (Robin), Lorne (Patricia), Laura (Bill), and David (Susan), nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins as well as Doris’ family. Clyde was predeceased by his parents Reinhold and Martha (Bauer) Krause, sister-in-law Kathryn Krause and cousin Richard Krause.

Family gatherings were one of his greatest joys. A quiet and gentle man, with a dry sense of humour, twinkle in his eye, deeply rooted integrity, honesty and a sharp quick wit. Although in the last several years his health was failing, he rarely complained and was very much a gentleman right to the end. He enjoyed decades of travel (visited all 50 states), backgammon, bridge, golfing, skiing, and watching sports.

He was born on July 6, 1945 in Medicine Hat, grew up on the family farm and ranch at Hilda, Alberta.

Schools he attended: Maple Tree (a one-room school), New Hilda and Medicine Hat High School.

He then enrolled at U of A in 1963 in Commerce and quickly realized that he wanted to switch to the Faculty of Agriculture in his second year. Clyde graduated with honours in 1967 with a BSc Agriculture Economics and won the Wall Street Journal award at graduation.
He met his future wife Doris in 1962, they were married in 1967 and purchased the family ranch at Hilda, Alberta. They later moved to Calgary where Clyde began working for IBM Canada. He accepted transfers to Regina and then back to Calgary. He left IBM in 1978 and shortly after became a partner in XI Consulting before he exited the business to continue private consulting until his retirement in 1996.

The family expresses their appreciation to the various care givers and especially, Teresa, Marlyn, Cheryl, Maricel, and Terry.

He will always be cherished, dearly missed and forever remembered.

A Celebration of Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W., Calgary, AB), on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Reception will be held at the Chapel following the Celebration. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

Memorial donations can be made to the Parkinsons Society of Alberta or the charity of your choice.

In living memory of Clyde Krause, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W. Telephone: 403-241-0044.

Condolence Messages

  1. Sherry Krause :

    Doris, Karen, Wendy, and family,
I was so saddened to hear of Clyde’s passing. I remember when I first met him, when I was fortunate enough to become a member of the Krause clan. He was soft spoken, kind, and so great with subtle , witty comebacks! Some of the stories that Richard later told me of their youthful escapades were wonderful. It will take all your strength to go on but Clyde will still be with you, always.
    Love ,Sherry

  8. At Hilda School I was in the same class as Ron/Clyde for a couple of years.
In the last year together he was in grade 11 and I in 10. At lunch time we often played a rough game of basketball and I mean rough. Through it all we started calling him Clyde the Glide. In Calgary we saw each other two or three times twice a year usually at the ball park or on the LRT. We seemed to chat briefly at those times about recent family and Hilda happenings. In hindsight I am glad we did. Later at his cousins funeral last year I introduced myself. He knew who I was. With a gleam in his eye his hand shot out for a handshake. You bet there was connection. Death is tough but I will always remember Clyde the Glide for his low key sharp wit.

Good memories always help in difficult times.
