KRAFT, Robert (Rob) Ernest

KRAFT, Robert (Rob) Ernest
September 15, 1957 – Calgary, AB
July 17, 2014 – Calgary, AB

Rob Kraft, cherished husband of twenty-eight years to Eileen Kraft, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2014. He died of complications from pneumonia. He died as he lived, with family by his side.

Rob was a proud second generation Calgarian. Though he travelled to seventeen countries, he was always happy to come home.

He graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Commerce. He articled at Coopers and Lybrand and became a Chartered Accountant. He quickly joined the oil patch and found a passion for being the CFO of junior oil companies.

He was a complex man with a quick mind and a twisted sense of humor. Rob was many things, but he was never boring. He was full of life and loved being outdoors. He fished, hunted, golfed, and walked for miles. He loved to travel, go to new places, and drive endlessly down country roads looking for duck sloughs.

Most of all he loved his family. His sons were his pride and joy. He will be terribly missed by his wife Eileen and his sons Jason and Matthew. He will be mourned by his mother Mary; his brother Harvey (Jacquie); mother-in-law Charlotte Murphy, brothers-in-law Rob and Michael. He will be fondly remembered by his nephew Nathan (Pam) and niece Breanne (Joey) and numerous members of the Harms family. Rob will be remembered by his uncle Norm (Yvonne) and numerous friends. He was predeceased by his father Ernest Charles Kraft in 2008.

A Celebration of Rob’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. due to allergies no flowers please. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Rob’s name can be made to Between Friend’s Club 205, 8989 Macleod Trail South Calgary, AB T2H 0M2 Telephone: 403-269-9133 or www.betweenfriends.ab.ca.
Thanks to Martha (OT) in Unit 58. Special thanks to Unit 61 at the Foothills Hospital for their compassionate and respectful treatment of Rob in his final days.

In living memory of Rob Kraft, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W.Telephone: 403-243-8200.

  17. Michael Piaskoski :

I have known Rob for over 40 years since I met him in Grade 10, and can say that he is truly the funniest man I ever met. He was one of the few people who could literally make me shoot milk (or beer) out of my nose in fits of uncontrollable laughter. Rob was a delightful paradox. His twisted sense of humour was matched only by his dad-like conservatism. For example, he would come to my parents’ house and place my mom’s collection of teddy bears in compromising positions. Yet, he never went anywhere without a substantial stash of proper handkerchiefs. He could tell his friend Ken with an absolutely straight face that a pigeon had pooped on his head (it had), yet insist on finding a restaurant that served a proper meal of veal cutlets.
When I left for Toronto 30 years ago, I maintained contact with Rob; most recently last October when I was in Calgary to visit my parents. We would rejoice in teenage tales of listening to Alice Cooper while wondering if we would ever lose our virginity.

Rob now leaves a big hole in our hearts and our lives. However, I smile thinking that, if there is an afterlife, Rob is forever warning his fellow occupants of errant pigeons.

Rob, I am a better man for having known you. My heart and condolences go out to Eileen and your two sons, all of whom you always spoke of with pride and affection.
