KOVACS, Donna Marie (nee Fehr)

December 9, 1941 – November 13, 2012

Donna Marie beloved wife of Louis Kovacs of Calgary (daughter of Benjamin and Jean Fehr) passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at the age of 70 years, with her family by her side.

Donna is survived by her husband Louis; daughter Aniko (Gregg) Abrigo; grandchildren Zoe & Mia, stepdaughters; Katalin (Leslie) Kiss and Petra Brandt (grandchildren Laura and Daniel). She is also survived by Sisters Denise (Jerry) Dawson, Debra Nelson; Brother Dale Fehr, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donna was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. She loved her family and friends and we know she was loved and cherished by everyone who came into her life. Donna was a very kind soul. Donna was a very creative person and an amazing artist. She had a passion for painting, she loved the beauty in everything and everyone around her which was best captured in her paintings. Donna loved travelling whether on a European adventure or trips around Alberta especially to Banff and Kananaskis Country. One of Donna’s greatest joys were our family gatherings during the holidays where many laughs were shared with loved ones. She wanted to be remembered for creativeness, caring and quiet humor. Most of all, she cherished her visits to see daughter Aniko, Gregg, Zoe and Mia in Hawaii.

Donna was born in Calgary although she spent her childhood years in Sundre, Alberta where her family homesteaded. Upon graduation she moved to Calgary where she held a number of supervisory and back office positions with the Bank of Montreal and the Royal Bank. There she met a number of life long friends. Donna met Louis the love of her life in Calgary; they married in 1965 and spent 47 years together. In 1971 gave birth to Aniko, which she said was the most important day of her life. Donna and Louis moved back to Sundre in 1976 to run the Sundre Bakery and Café, which they managed and operated until their return to Calgary in 1998.

Donna fought a courageous battle with Lupus for over forty years. She suffered endlessly from complications from her illness but never ever complained. Up until her final day she never gave up hope and we’ll remember that as her legacy; “Never Give Up”. She was cared for by their friend and physician Dr. Corley and by Dr. Schorr to the very end. Words cannot express our family’s gratitude for their caring and dedication to Donna.

Memorial Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.); on Thursday, November 22, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. We would like to thank the Foothills “Team Yellow” and staff who helped her in her final days and especially for their kindness and compassion to Donna and our family. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire donations may be made in Donna’s name to the Lupus Society of Alberta – Calgary Chapter.

In loving memory of Donna Kovacs, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot Chapel, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W. Telephone: (403) 241-0044.

  9. Bruce and Dianne Standing :

    Dear Louie and family,

It was only in the last few years that we got to know Donna. She was always a great addition to our get togethers. One of the things I will remember most about her is how many times we had shared lunch before it came out that she painted: such a talented, yet modest lady. She will be missed by many. You have our sympathies.
