Words can not express my sorrow and grief at this difficult time. Carmen was my colleague and my friend. She was a dedicated teacher who always strived to provide a quality education to her students. I know I learned so much from her and I value the time we taught together. Carmen’s work ethic was undeniable. Nothing slowed her down. But what Carmen was most of all was a loving mother and wife. She loved her children with every ounce of her being. She loved to share their stories and accomplishments with us at school. She would make the most incredible birthday cakes and organize neighbourhood parties. I can’t believe that Carmen is gone. We knew she was sick for so long but we never got to say goodbye. My thoughts and prayers go out to Russ the Maegan and Ayden and her parents Barb and Vern. We will all miss her so much. Heaven has her now.

  10. I had the pleasure of starting my career with Carmen and then later on again at a different school where we were team partners for many years. She was more then a coworker she was a dear friend. Carmen had so much energy, and she had such a distinct walk you could tell it was her from a mile away with the clicking of her shoes and a bounce in her step, she would tell me to walk like you have a purpose with a big smile. Carmen was talented a talented teacher, but I always felt she should have been a party planner on the side. From Easter egg hunts to themed birthday parties there was nothing she couldn’t do. Carmen was so proud of her kids, we shared many stories. She was my late night email and texting buddy, and I will miss the late night talks. Love you Carmen, you will be dearly missed. To her family I know you all meant so much to her and I am so very sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Carmen was my daughter Hallee’s grade 3/4 teacher at Citadel Park School. She will be deeply missed by all her former students and their families. Carmen went out of her way to develop a personal relationships with all her students and their parents which was so appreciated. Maegan and Ayden your mom loved you both so much and talked about you always. She was very proud of you both. 16. We got to know Carmen when we moved to Cochrane in 2008 and our kids all became fast friends. Brownies and musical theatre were the big catch up times each week, so many wonderful visits and laughs. When the time came for us to move in 2010, It was so hard to say goodbye, but Carmen made Shelbi and Harmon special picture frames with pictures of all the kids together. We still have those pictures displayed. We felt so welcomed by Carmen and Russ. Our hearts are filled with sadness learning of Carmen’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Maegan, Ayden, Russ and family.

  18. It was a privilege to know Carmen.

With her great warmth, energy and courage, Carmen brought a little bit of magic to everything she said and did.

Carmen was a delightful soul who left her mark on so many. I always enjoyed chatting with her because she was so insightful, determined and joyous. She always left me laughing. Although I am very sad, I can still smile when I think of her and the way she glowed and sparkled.

My deepest sympathy to Russ, Maegan, Ayden, Barbara, Vern, Pamela, Glenn, Ashley, Kyle, her friends, colleagues and former students.

  28. Thank you for sharing Carmen with us. She was always so willing to talk with others who struggled with health issues like myself. She has a beautiful smile and I can still hear her laugh and her boots walking down the hallway at Citadel Park School. It was a privilege to work with her and laugh with her. I will always remember the first time I met her at school: she and I went for lunch because she didn’t know anyone, she was frantic because she couldn’t find her car keys. By the end of lunch she laughed so hard as she reached into her coat pocket and pulled out her keys. She was always so proud of what she created in life: a beautiful family and a successful career. Thoughts and prayers to you all.

  29. Gayle Wilderman :

“I’m not very good at technology, but after the kids were in bed, I was just looking around and I found something interesting that you might all use”. With those words, Carmen would often “share” with the rest of us. In this case, it was an interactive web site that anyone going to the Glenbow on a field trip could use to help our students better understand the Blackfoot people. That was so often Carmen – cheerful, humble, and ready to share with the rest of us – Citadel Park teachers.
She taught across the hall from me. With great energy and humour, she would come into my class to meet the grade ones. Lunch was nearly always spent running errands for her family. And she would share concerns about Maegan’s homework, or Ayden’s school experience, or Russ working too hard, or her dad’s health. She loved her family dearly.
As her colleague, friend, and fellow teacher, I miss her every day. I am so sorry that she lost her battle, but I so honour her friendship, hardwork, and family loving ways.

  32. We are very, very sorry for the loss of such a special person. Ms. Kost was Meghan’s grade 3 and 4 teacher for 2011/12 and 2012/13. As a family, we adored her and Meghan was encouraged and inspired by her daily. Every time we spoke with her, she mentioned her wonderful family and it was clear how much she loved each of you. The parting advice she offered her grade 4s (to have lots of different friends from lots of different groups and walks of life) has been so valuable to Meghan over the past 2 years. In this and so many other ways, she brought wisdom, beauty and love into the lives of her students and everyone around her. She will be deeply missed. We are praying that God himself will wrap you in his peace.

    With love,
    The John Family

  33. Mollie Casselton :

I have known the Bradbury’s for a very long time! Yet another healthy day with all of them smiling without a care in the world is something I wish I could see just one more time! To try to describe Carmen Kost one word is certainly near impossible. Incredible, enthusiastic, caring, cheerful, independent, devoted and loving are just a few of her wonderful qualities that I could choose from off the top of my head! Carmen was, and always will be more than any words in existence can describe. Some of my fondest memories of Carmen include her denying us to ‘help out’ with hiding the easter eggs for her annual easter egg hunt (which we did every year!)! A trip of a lifetime to see We Day this year with her and her amazing children! The kids and I trying to make our incredibly awful looking cookies into creepy halloween cookie extravaganzas; she ended up going to the Bulk Barn to get cupcake holders already equipped with 8 legs! Carmen would encourage what ever strange or ridiculous thing we were phased into at that current time, she would embrace it and make it even more exciting and spectacular then we already found it! There are hundreds of more memories, the way she laughed, the nicknames she had for her kids and her extensive new hobbies that she got everyone else hooked on! Nothing can really sum up Carmen’s life, so now there is nothing left to say but, I love you Carmen, my family and I will greatly miss you! xoxoxoxoxo

Carmen you left us too soon, but someone more wise than I once said, “It is not the time you spend on this earth it is what you do with that time that matters”. Carmen certainly packed a lot into her time. Our families met shortly after coming to Canada in 2004, over the years we became good friends of Carmen and Russ, and our children have been friends ever since. We are so proud to be known as your friend and miss your infectious laugh and positive spirit, mixed with your unbelievable energy. You were always willing to include Mollie in your latest adventure or idea or rope us in to helping in some way. We were not the type of people that needed to have coffee every week, or go on annual holidays together, but if either family called to say “I need help” we would be there before we put the phone down. We were blessed to be a part of you and your families life and we will treasure our memories forever. Russ, Ayden and Maegan will always be a part of our lives and your spirit will live on through them as the bond we forged will never be broken. Rest peacefully our friend, we will raise a glass of wine every year and wear the broadest smile just like you always did. You will forever be remembered in our hearts and minds as the best Wife, Mother, Colleague and Friend.
