Condolence Messages

  1. Patricia Lovsin :

My condolences to the family of Galena Koddo.
I have a watercolor painting (still life)painted many years ago in Edson, Alberta. The Koddos lived in the rear of Frank and Eva Lovsin’s home on 5th Ave. many years ago. When Eva Lovsin died, her house contents were given to her children, Frank, Anne, Joseph and Dan. There was a draw actually and we came into the possession of this painting which hung in the dining room of Eva Lovsin’s home. Frank Lovsin won the draw for that painting but he then gave it to my husband. The painting now hangs near the dining table in the kitchen. Many times guests who come to my home, remark about the painting; it is simple but so beautifully painted. The subject is a bowl of fruit with a vase holding some simple flowers.
Yesterday I received a call from my brother in law, Dan, who lives in Calgary along side the Bear’s Paw golf course. He had read the obituary of Mrs. Koddo and he wanted me to know the story of the painting and a little of the Koddo couple who rented from the Lovsins. It was a place with a large kitchen and a bedroom. There was a shared bathroom with the Lovsin family. I have encouraged Dan to attend the funeral tomorrow to talk to family. I have photocopied the obit. and now I will attach it to the back of the picture frame so that others will not wonder about the history of the work.
It sounds like Mrs. Koddo was an extremely talented and intelligent woman. How fortunate I have a piece of her legacy.
Unfortunately my husband, Joseph, passed away in Nov. ’11. He would have been fascinate to learn more about this wonderful artist.
    Pat. Lovsin, Lindsay, Ontario

  2. Genevieve Ashwell :

Dear Galina and Reinhard, Alex, granddaughters Jonquil and Jacinthe,

My sincere sympathy in the loss of your Mom and grandma. May your memories of her marvelous personality, and her legacy of art bring you much joy. I am proud to have a flower painting in my kitchen which she painted in 1997.

It was a very special gift she gave my family when she and daughter Galina came to our mother’s birthday in 1994.

May you rejoice in her great gifts to humanity.

    Gen Ashwell
