Irene Knowler passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 14, 2008, at age 94 years.
Irene was born in Regina, SK on March 24, 1914, and moved to Calgary as a young bride, where she raised her four children, and enjoyed a long and satisfying career working in several capacities at Royalite Oil, the Baptist Overseas Mission, and the Calgary Board of Education. She was an active member of the Altadore Baptist Church for more than fifty years and was especially committed to the work of the Canadian Baptist Overseas Mission. Irene was blessed with many, many life-long friends from her church and her neighbourhood in Altadore, and more recently among her neighbours at Garrison Woods Manor – we know that she would want to pass on her love and appreciation to each and all of them.
Irene is survived by her sisters, Dorothy and Margaret; daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Lorne; sons and daughters-in-law, Murray and Sue and David and Muriel; daughter-in-law Barbara; grandchildren, Christi (Brian), Greg (Lisa), Josh, Mark, and Chad, and great grandson Caleb. She was predeceased by her husband Claude, sister Pearl, brother Don, and son Jim.
A celebration of Irene’s life will be held at Altadore Baptist Church (4304 – 16th Street S.W.) on Friday August 22, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. Reception in the church hall to follow. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers to the family, Irene would love it if each of you would buy yourself a bouquet of fresh flowers on your way home. The family wishes to thank the physicians and staff of Unit 46 at Foothills Medical Centre who were so kind and supportive during the last phase of Irene’s life. Their care and compassion comforted Irene and her family, and made this difficult journey much more bearable for us all. In living memory of Irene Knowler, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W.
