November 25, 1941 – November 27, 2010

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Kay passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, November 27, 2010 after a brief illness.

She will be missed immeasurably by her husband Joe, daughter Kim Molloy (Mitch); sons Joseph (Deborah) and Mark (Tylor) as well as grandchildren Brendan, Gillian and Willem, all of Calgary, AB. She is also mourned by her siblings; Paul (Margaret), Peter (Patricia); Vincent (Delores), Madeline (Doug) all of St. John’s, Nfld; Angela Peters of Windsor, Ont; Carmel (Cyril) of Mississauga, Ont., many nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends. Kay was predeceased by her parents Peter and Madeline and brothers, Raymond and James. Kay was born in Carbonear, Nfld. but spent the majority of her youth in St. John’s, Nfld. After high school, she attended nursing school at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital. Her adventurous spirit led her to a nursing position in Labrador City, Nfld. where she met and married her husband Joe, and started her family. More adventure ensued as Kay moved across Canada to settle in Red Deer, AB in 1977. She nursed at the Red Deer Regional Hospital and found her passion working in the post-partum recovery unit where she was an essential team member. As her kids grew and moved to Calgary, she followed them to settle here in 1994 where she made many fabulous friends and spent time volunteering for the elderly. Kay discovered new hobbies such as hiking in the mountains, golfing, and patronizing the various fine arts that Calgary has to offer. Her insatiable curiosity and quest for knowledge led her to enrol in many continuing education classes at the University of Calgary and it also inspired her to travel throughout North America and Europe with her family and friends. Kay’s dedication to her family was unparalleled and she took the most pleasure in spending time with her kids and her grandkids, supporting and cheerleading all of their endeavours. Her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews were also a great source of happiness for Kay, and she loved catching up with everyone by phone and for visits to Newfoundland. There are no words to describe how much we will miss her zest for life, enthusiasm, wit, intelligence, thoughtfulness and generosity. Her capacity to put everyone else’s needs before her own was boundless and we are grateful to have been the beneficiaries of such a giving heart and wonderful example of a mother’s love. The family would like to thank all of the staff at the Foothills Hospital Unit 37 (Parveen, you are an angel) and the ICU for their tireless efforts and compassionate care. A private service took place on Thursday, December 2nd, 2010 with an interment to follow at a later date in St. John’s, Newfoundland. If friends so desire, memorial donations can be made to the Southern Alberta Pediatric Hostel Society, 111 West Campus Blvd. NW., Calgary, Alberta, T3B 2R6. Forward condolences through
