KIRK – Peter

May 19, 1943– April 12, 2011

It is with profound sadness we announce Peter’s passing on April 12, 2011.

Peter moved to Calgary in 1967 from Hazelgrove, England to begin a new life. He loved Calgary and was able to realize many of his dreams with the wonderful friends he made throughout the years.

Football was an important part of Peter’s life and he had the opportunity to play with several teams, including a memorable trip to Long Beach with the Calgary Selects where he met Sir Stanley Matthews.

Peter travelled the world for business and pleasure and loved business class. His travels included Europe, Japan, and all over Canada and the United States.

Peter was always looking for the next adventure and started his business in 1994. He was truly happy to have this exciting period of his life.

Peter wished success for his family and was proud to be Granddad and Poppa Pete to Jake, Kate, Nolan, Sasia, Rene and Teesha.

Peter will be missed by his wife Beverley and his sons Peter (Amanda), David (Amber) and Paul (Tina).

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Monday, April 18, 2011 at 2:30 p.m.  Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

Condolence Messages

  1. Alison Murray :

My heart goes out to you all at this sad time. I’ve known Pete Kirk Sr. since I was 15 years old, and will always remember what a strong and powerful personality he had. I have many fond memories of laughing with Peter because he always told such a funny tale… Whenever I hear a Paul Simon song (‘Diamonds in the Soles of her Shoes’) I think of him. He will be sorely missed.
Luv to you Pete Jr., Dave, Paul and the rest of the family. I’ll be with you all in my heart on Monday.
    Luv Ali xoxo

  4. Sean & Wendy Hayes :

I played soccer with Peter late in his career and when he stopped playing he coached me for awhile. Many a time he gave me coaching tips well into the wee hours. Finally at the Stanley Matthews tournament I coached him, the best soccer experience for so many of us. About Peter there are many stories to be told, so many memories to be shared. Such a good friend, so charismatic, so sweet, he always made you feel special whenever you entered the room and at the same time he never missed a chance to tease you. He died far too young. I really can’t think of anyone else in the soccer community as popular as Peter. We will miss him dearly. May he rest in peace.

  5. Dear Beverly,
I am so sorry for your loss. Peter was truly an amazing man. His love for you was obvious in the way he looked at you and sought out the peace your presence gave him. Your love and care for him warmed my heart.

  9. Peter Walker :

Quite a shock to hear of this. I worked with him for a number of years at CK Steel and again at TIW Industries.

He was part of the legend and part of “the old family” at CK.

I know we lost touch, recently meeting only at funerals.

    Sorry to have missed him.

  10. I just googled Peters name and was shocked to see this. I am deeply saddened by Peters passing as he was a great friend. I had lost touch with Peter when I moved away from Calgary in 1988 but have lots of great memories. He is saddly missed!!
