KIRBY (BAXTER), Ellen Elizabeth (nee Northcott)

May 15, 1915 – December 30, 2012

Ellen Kirby passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at the age of 97 years.

Ellen was born in Airdrie and grew up in the Balzac district in a large family. She married Harold Baxter in 1946, and lived for many years in Madden, where she raised her family. After being widowed, Ellen married Harry Kirby and enjoyed her young grandchildren while living at their Balzac farm. Widowed once again, Ellen moved to her Airdrie home where she was active with the Lioness Club, Over 50 Club, and bowling leagues. She later moved to her retirement homes in Calgary, where she was always an involved member of her community.
Ellen touched many lives in her long career as a teacher. She was a prodigious crafter, and loved time spent with family and friends.

Ellen is survived by her sons Fred (Susan) Baxter of Calgary, and Doug (Laura) Baxter of Pine Lake; two grandsons Steven (Jen) Kinch and Nathan Baxter; three granddaughters Cynthia, Julia, and Anne Baxter; one great granddaughter Victoria Baxter; one brother Stan Northcott; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husbands Harold Baxter and Harry Kirby, her parents William and Laura Northcott, her brothers Norman, Ralph, Ray, and Frank Northcott, and her sisters Phyllis Campbell and Joan Northcott/Browns.

Funeral Services will be held at Crossfield United Church (1005 Ross Street) on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
