July 17, 1922 – September 13, 2011

John “Jack” Kilpatrick, beloved husband of Mary “May” Kilpatrick, passed away on Tuesday September 13, 2011.

John was born in Glasgow, Scotland. As a young man, he was extremely active in the Boys Brigade. He served in WWII in the British Army from 1939-1947. John was initiated into the Grand Lodge of Scotland in 1947. John married Mary Cummings Burns in 1949 and in 1951 immigrated to Canada with Mary and son James. He received a Doctor of Motors Degree in 1951. John was a very social man and a great lover of music, singing by Mary’s side while she played the piano. John and Mary founded the Heritage Music Makers, entertaining at nursing homes and senior facilities in Calgary. John loved travelling with his wife in their motor home and spent many summers in Canmore with their friends. He was admired and loved by friends and family, but his main role in this life was to care for Mary, putting all her health and happiness ahead of his own. Even after sixty-three years of marriage, they were “honeymooning” right to the end.

John is survived by his son James Kilpatrick of Toronto, daughters, Janet Kilpatrick (Greg LaFrance) of Kansas, USA, Elizabeth (Tony) Bowers of Calgary, four grandchildren, Tracy Hankins, Tamara (Jason) Jansen, Robyn Kilpatrick, and Sheena Ruhnau, and two great-granddaughters, Cydney Sinton and Katalyn Jansen. He is survived also by his sister Ina McAulay of Glasgow, as well as numerous other family members in Britain.

John was predeceased by his parents, Margaret and James Kilpatrick, sister Margaret Hart, and his beloved wife, Mary, who passed away peacefully on August 10, 2011, after a long battle with COPD.

Funeral Services will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (703 Heritage Drive S.W.) on Monday, September 19, 2011 at 1:00 p.m.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Lung Association, P.O. Box 4500, Station South, Edmonton, AB T6E 6K2 Telephone: 1 (888) 566 – 5864., in memory of Mary Kilpatrick.
