July 24, 1959 – Portage La Prairie, Manitoba
January 7, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta
Nancy Kilburn of Calgary passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at the age of 55 years.
She was born July 24, 1959 in Portage La Prairie and moved to Calgary in 1969, where she remained. Nancy had one daughter Sydney who she was very proud of and always spoke about with a smile.
Nancy started her career as a school bus driver and then advanced to a City of Calgary Transit driver. From there she moved onto the trains and eventually became part of the Calgary Transit security team, PS100. Nancy was a master of crafts as she could sew, knit, crotchet, quilt, decorative paint and her most recent passion was beading. She mentored others by teaching her crafts to anyone who was interested and would often use her crafting skills to fundraise for breast cancer. Another of Nancy’s passions was her love of animals, especially horses.
In 2006, Nancy was diagnosed with breast cancer and fought a courageous battle. She always said “I have cancer, cancer doesn’t have me” and that is how she lived every moment to the fullest. Nancy touched everyone she met along the way.
Nancy is survived by her daughter Sydney Dawn Kilburn-Robinson of Acme, AB; her mother Cicely Kilburn of Calgary; and her siblings, Brenda Smith of Stonewall, MB, Wanda (Dennis) Eckert of Winnipeg, MB, Duane (Debb) Kilburn, Kerry (Corleen) Kilburn, and Sherri Kilburn, all of the Calgary. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins all cross Canada. Nancy was predeceased by her father Doug Kilburn in 1980.
