August 3, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father Gerhard (Gerry) Peter Kiefer peacefully at home with family at his side in Calgary on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at the age of 83 years. A remarkable life has ended its journey on this earth.
Gerry was a dedicated family man who believed in hard work, honesty and integrity in all that he undertook. Gerry was a master carpenter by trade and had a real passion for woodwork.
Gerry immigrated from Germany to Canada in 1951 to work at Calgary Sash & Door. Gerry was the fourth employee at ATCO and became the Plant Manager in 1955. Gerry was appointed Vice President, Manufacturing in 1968 as ATCO grew. Gerry joined the ATCO Ltd. Board as a Director in 1970 and later became a member of the Audit committee.
Gerry served the Board and the Corporation with distinction in his capacity as a Director and as a Senior Officer of the Corporation by employing his considerable talents, business acumen and manufacturing expertise. Gerry retired in 1988 as a Director and Senior Vice President Manufacturing for ATCO Ltd. and would continue to serve the Corporation as a Consultant for a number of years. In his outstanding career with ATCO, Gerry would travel extensively to all corners of the globe and he took great pride in being referred to as one of the Builders of ATCO.
Deeply loved and remembered by his six children, Gerhard (Shelley), Ingrid (Christopher Eggertson), Karen, Siegfried (Colleen), Erhard (Ursula), and Walter (Beverley); and his ten grandchildren, Krystina (Geoff Hopfner), Nikolaus (Gianna Argento), Christopher, Carin, Stefan, Reegan, Dana, Paul, Garrett, and Brittney. Gerry is also survived by his sister Maria (Rudolf) Schwarz; brother Willi (Christel) Kiefer; and extended family in Orscholz, Germany.
Gerry was predeceased by his loving wife of forty-two years, Lydia.
