KEVOL, Dorothy Whytock (nee Richardson)

March 13, 1928 – Dundee, Scotland
February 3, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta

Our mum left us in a peaceful sleep on the morning of Tuesday, February 3, 2015 in her 86th year.

She was a beloved wife, mum, sister, grandma, great-grandma, auntie and friend. She will be missed by all of her family in Calgary, Moose Jaw and Scotland.

She was born in Dundee, Scotland to John and Dorothy Richardson on March 13, 1928. She was the eldest of twelve children, six boys and six girls.

Mum arrived in Canada by herself on a ship called the RMS Aquitania on September 15, 1948 from Blairgowrie, Scotland. She only knew an aunt in Hamilton when she arrived. Later she decided to move to Regina, Saskatchewan for a job as a nanny and housekeeper. There she met Sam Kevol through his sister who worked in the house next door to where mum worked.

They married in Kayville, Saskatchewan on July 2, 1950. They moved to Moose Jaw and had two daughters; then moved their family to Calgary in 1968. During their marriage they travelled many places.

Mum had a day home, which saw numerous babies grow up until school age.

Mum was an amazing gardener, cook, and loved sewing and knitting. She was always cheerful and just happy with life. She was a caring and loving mother and wife. Mum and Dad loved to entertain and were involved in their bowling league. They would go dancing almost every Saturday night at different halls in Calgary with their group of friends.

Mum was loved and will be missed by her daughters, Dorothy Anne Kevol (Kevin Dow) and Marlene Linville (Harvey); granddaughters, Angie Braham (Brandon) and Chantelle Delisle (Jason); great-grandchildren, Kiera Braham and Matthew Braham; her sisters, Olive, Margaret, Liz, and Jean; her brother David; and many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Sam on June 4, 2000; her sister Audrey; her brothers, Billy, George, Jimmy, Gordon, and Jack; her brother-in-law Victor; and her sister-in-law Agnes.

Thank you mum for teaching us so many things in life with love and a gentle hand.
That has made us the good people that we are today.
Love, Dorothy Anne and Marlene

    My Dear Marlene and Dorothy
I’m so sorry to hear about your Mom’s death. I have so many fond memories of her lovely laugh and kindness to all of the Rosemont gang. It was always safe and relaxing to be at your house. She was truly a loving woman. I always think of how blessed Michael was to have had her for daycare! Your mom was the one who taught me how to hem pants properly.

Big blessings to you both at this time.
